As for the chances of life on some other planets - highly probably. However this might be no more complex than single cells or a green slime. Others might be equivalent to plants & insects - but not necessarily looking like anything on earth.

Given the vast numbers of stars & probably planets in our universe, there is surely a distinct possibility that intelligent life developed elsewhere - but maybe not at the same time as us - and a tiny proportion may even have looked vaguely human.

However, we will probably never meet them - but if humans still exist billions of years from now, some of our successors may just meet other life types - if they find a way to travel vast distances in space and look for another home when our sun starts to decay / expand / self-destruct.

And there may even be life in the other universes that probably exist too far away for us to detect them (at present).

Discovering life, or fossilised life, within our own Solar System would be a start. But if that life were earth-like (carbon etc) then it would prove nothing - ie bacteria-like life on Mars could simply have originated on the early Earth and been transported there after a giant meteor strike...or vice versa (we're all Martians in origin...??).

BUT if life can cross 25m miles of void, then there's the possibility life could have originated virtually at the dawn of time and transported itself in many different directions from one place. That means there could well be Earth-like beings elsewhere, maybe manyfold. However, as we (humans) have only been on Earth an miniscule amount of time, and we kill ourselves off, then if that is repeated throughout the universe then the percentage chance of saying "hello" is back to miniscule. We need at least two civilisations to hang around. For a very long time.
