Since the announcement, there's already comments like 'why not Sheffield' or 'Leeds'. I suppose that's inevitable and part of the reason why London is the place for most national events.
It looks like there will be a London event, not the 'official' one, but probably better attended than Manchester, - also better media coverage.

Precisely - just seen that poor Muhamad guy who lost the Gold in the last seconds of the Male T'kwondo to the Ivory Coast Competitor. he should be proud of himself - the boy done good.

I just hope we can hang onto second - in my view it will never get any better than that.

Not sure about the victory parade in Manchester - should be in London to avoid any arguments - ie it is the Capital.

At the risk of adding an inappropriate comment that adds nothing to the topic may I venture to suggest that London being the capital of the UK/Great Britain is the place for a parade of the GB and NI Team

You all probably know and this is nothing to do with Team GB, but this is Usain Bolt's last Olympics.

If we retain second place in the medals table and beat China it will be one of the greatest British sporting performances ever. One thing slightly glossed over is that we will end up with fewer Golds than London - they focus on the overall total of medals. Still for an away performance magnificent

I wonder how our success is viewed in Ireland (2 silvers ) and the rest of Europe ?

He must be a shoe in for a Knighthood - or perhaps they will wait until after the World Championships in London next year if he is carrying on.

Team gb has surpassed 2012 medal tally, first time since 1896 a host nation has won increased medals at a games immediately following their own.
Even more remarkable is that we have 175 less competitors than at 2012.

That may be true and Scotland have probably done quite well in relation to Population as well - not sure about NI. But take the lottery funding out of the equation which comes from the whole of the UK (mainly England) and the facilities and sponsorship provided and Cymru would probably be in the Ireland category of "also rans".

It takes precedence in compiling the table ..... ie only if you were equal in Golds would they take silver into consideration.

During the London Olympics my family and I were lucky to get tickets for several events inside the stadium and at each event all competitors got at the very least applause in addition to the winners getting a cheer. I think it's rather sad that in 2016 apart from Usain Bolt and Mo Farah it's only the Brazilian athletes that have been cheered on.

I take it you are primarily referring to the treatment meted out to French Pole Vaulter Renaud Lavellinie who despite being runner up to a Brazilian was subjected to a chorus of boos on receiving his Silver Medal.

Probably a cultural thing, but what do you expect in a "banana republic"

Cultural. This is the same nation that's neglected the Paralympics, and only a 12% up take on tickets. I don't remember London Paralympics but I'm sure most was close to capacity.
An old friend is in the Paralympic triathlon and it's not even on TV now as they have cut broadcast footage available, as a result of it being dropped from TV a few local businesses down here have kindly clubbed together and paid for her parents to go out to Rio so they don't miss altogether,

No not really. When we watched the 200m final the other night the only competitor who received applause before start was Usain Bolt which we thought was very disrespectful to the other athletes.
