I explained elsewhere that personal circumstances prevent it. Certainly I would have long gone given the opportunity. If I knew what I know now I would have gone to university abroad and wouldn't have come back. Now my fellow citizens have put my future plans to leave in grave danger.

Forgetting radamfi and his histrionics, back in Rio it seems that the Paralympic games are in complete chaos. Reports suggest that the budget has been spent on the 'main' games and that there is no cash left to pay for the Paralympics

A report on the BBC this evening states that the Organising Comittee has had to go to court to overturn the state decision to stop funding

For some reason I don't seem to be able to link to that report at the moment but it is on the 'Disability Sport' page on the BBC website

To explain, as you clearly don't understand.

Brexit might mean that it will be harder to live and work in the rest of Europe. That is what I want to do in the future, so that is why I am upset.

88% of tickets remain unsold and the organisers have blown the budget on the main Olympics.

All the progress made in 2012, gone. Just like that.

I find it bizarre that so many people here are taking pride in British sporting success. We were mostly united in slagging off the country a couple of months ago. Britain doesn't suddenly become a good country in two months. British sporting success doesn't make our daily lives any better and by next week it will largely be forgotten. I disowned the country and continue to do so. I continue to avoid British made products where possible.

I smell a deep hate for Britain in this post, and half of it nothing to do with the Olympics...

I wonder if it's a possibility, if the official funding situation fails, for the larger and wealthier countries to 'adopt' a smaller nation and fund their expenses on this occasion

I'm not a supporter of the Olympic system in any way, I know the old argument of spreading the Games around to give everyone a chance, but seriously, how many countries will ever actually be in a position to hold them?

I feel strongly that a purpose built facility should be sited in Greece and the games held there and there only, let's stop this money wasting and concentrate the savings on building a legacy in all countries, not just those rich enough to be the host

Well, you did once call me a Communist socialistic red flag-waving rebel.

I'm not really an 'Angel of Death', just an Angel of Cynicism and Gentle Good Humour. I may have indeed been rather to quick off the mark to describe your wibble as 'Tory', but at least part of it was wibble. That I stand by.

In the meantime I hope that you will at least cope with my wibble as you may find solace in the fact that you are not its sole producer. After all, those who wibble may have wibble thrust upon them. I've just made that up, but you're free to use it

Meanwhile, Spain are in the final of the women's basketball after beating Serbia. One of the interesting things about the Olympics is the fact that many teams do well in events that you wouldn't really expect them to - for example, Serbia reaching the semi-finals of the women's basketball, or Canada doing well in the diving.

I'm not sure that many people in radamfi's situation would speak entirely reasonably, so it might be good if people were to perhaps be more tactful...? I mean, if I had big plans like radamfi's that I had been working towards for some time and they looked dashed, then I probably wouldn't speak entirely rationally either. I'm not sure many of us here would. OK I might lack the authority of a mod or someone else who would be better suited to saying this, but he's clearly upset. None of us are improving on that.

I'm aware that that is really off-topic, but it needed to be said. Dredging up histrionical sentiments isn't really going to help either. We all need to move on.

All that progress, positive good will and improvement in the position of disability sport flushed down the toilet. Really sad.

The problem is, that the smaller, poorer nations would still have to pay back the debt at a later date, and some are already in a sorry state.

You could concentrate the Olympics on certain nations (in North America and Europe, plus Japan and Australia) but how would the other countries that have a chance feel about that?

Money will still be spent as you'd have to pay to maintain this facility.

This might be of interest Paul. There is the BOA (British Olympics Association) which is made up of 35 NGBs (National Governing Bodies - for a particular sport) across both the Summer and Winter games, and then one would assume there are additional administrative staff. I would presume that each athlete is a member of their relevant sporting association who then hold qualifiers for each games, at which point those who progress are expected (but probably not contracted) to represent team GB at the games.

With regards to previous posting discussions on team events, much as I have researched into the matter, I still cannot trace any team events in the ancient Olympic Games that could have been used as a precedent.

However, it is reported that this was a security guard who wanted them to pay for damage to a door in a petrol station.

I guess a combination of late-night celebrations and a language barrier led to this little 'misunderstanding'.

Two of his compatriots have apparently been detained at an airport and have been returned to the Olympic Village.

The farcical scenes remind me of Flying Down To Rio (Rio by the sea-o).
