Yeah so it was a 3 week wait in between getting the Email to say I had passed the interview and getting the Email with a date for the assessment centre which was a week later.
I then waited about another month for the medical and start date.

Inevitable 'Regret to inform' email came today. Ah well, sounds like I did well to get that far. Good luck to everyone else, hope you get further than me!
Sorry to hear that pal, don't be too disheartened and try to remember what they asked in the interview and write it down to keep for when you re-apply. Got mine on Thursday morning, just had to go out and get a new suit. First time I've had an interview outside of my current profession for 15yrs! Little nervous and excited by it all but all we can do is try!

Said I achieved top marks in customer service questions and what the job entails. I looked the part and apparently I failed by a millimetre. Bet they say that to all the girls....
Anyway, what let me down was 'lack of specific detail' on some of the questions. Obviously it depends what questions you get but go into graphic detail with your examples. On reflection, I could have been more detailed but I think because I'd never interviewed for a role outside of my current profession before, I underestimated how much detail is required.
It was my first go so I'm not too disheartened but I know for the future and will be back with a vengeance. However I hope my temporary failure will help others. Good luck.

So sorry to hear that but like you say it's a temporary setback, you'll be back with a better idea of what to expect and in the next 6 months start noting down experiences that you have that can be used in the competency questions.
Must be gutted I know but look at it as a challenge and come back swinging fully prepared.
Just unwinding now after my interview, think it went okay but you never really know. Just an anxious wait now to hear, they reckon about a week to hear something back and looking at starting training in September.

Had the assessment day yesterday.
Managed to get through both assessment stages - found it quite tough personally.
Five of us on the day. One went home at lunch after failing stage 1 (he was actually in for Blackburn). Another went home after failing stage 2.
The three of us remaining (all for Blackpool at the moment, although they asked all of us at initial interview if we'd be willing to work at Blackburn) then had the MMI interview, but wasn't told how that went on the day.
They'll feed back to Northern who will get in touch with us.

Failed on GB then, as didn't know anything about the process.
Had an application knocked back at sift.
Now finally got through.

I wouldn't say it was a grilling, but they do ask a lot of sub questions & probe very deep into your answers.
If you're prepared & can back-up your answers you should be fine.

Did you get a grilling in the mmi? And congrats for getting to the mmi in the first place.
I wouldn't say it was a grilling, but they do ask a lot of sub questions & probe very deep into your answers.
If you're prepared & can back-up your answers you should be fine.
Awesome stuff gazcat chuffed to bits for you. I'm pretty well prepared and my current job covers most things I'm likely to get asked. Just wish it wasn't in 2 weeks would much rather it be this week.

Sounds like you'll be ok.
Try & remain calm during the tests as the assessor did say they are designed to test you under pressure as well as for the particular aptitude test itself.

First post but long time viewer of the forum. I was lucky enough to pass everything yesterday with gazcat. Over the moon, thank you to everyone on here for the invaluable advice. To anyone due to take the assessment, the practice material sent is more than enough to help ensure a successful day. Good luck to those due undergo the assessments over the next few weeks.

Gazcat, I'm not too sure whether he got through too. I've been pencilled in for a course starting 3rd October pending the results of my medical. Was lucky they had a medical slot on my day off tomorrow so not having to wait long for it! How about you?

Bean123 they wanted me to start on 5th September but I had to come away to work yesterday and I'll still be working away then.
So they are getting back to me regarding a medical date for when I'm back, as well as alternative course dates.

Welcome to Blackpool it's a great depot to work out of unless it's raining and you have to walk what seems like miles to collect your unit in a morning.
Congrats to you all. Got through the full day and just a case of waiting for the results of my final interview now. Nervous wait ahead but been an interesting experience, called into the first pub I came across for a quick pint before the train ride home! Haha
Thanks everyone, hoping to hear tomorrow or Monday, not fussed as long as it's good news! Good luck sennaf15 it's a long pressured day but most of the pressure comes from what we put on ourselves. The tests are designed to test how you act under pressure. Few deep breaths, practice the stuff sent out and it can be done. Let me know how you get on!
