Just a poll on which is your favorite electric loco. I'm the first on the poll-Class 89 forever!

Would have gone for a 73 but as its not a pure electric loco had to be an 87 as they worked out of one of my local shacks so many a bash started out with a 7 into town!

Sorry, I did think of the 71, but it was too late and I don't even know where it is (is it at the NRM or Shildon) and what is the 74-Is it a Woodhead loco?

These used to get me to London and back every week! If only an 87 and a rake of Mk3s was as fast and as reliable as the claustrophobic Pendo! If they were, they might still be with us.

Gone for the 87. The only electric locomotive that makes a decent enough noise for me to enjoy and the only sort I ever chased to any extent.

90s just don't cut it for me, would rather a 7 any day!

But then I'll go for diesel over electric usually, although electric stuff is nice for a change now and again.

Close one, but I had to go for 86 as I have quite a few memories riding behind them. Plus my first ride behind an electric loco was an 86.

If I'd have been a few years earlier I'd probably say roarers - only have a few fleeting memories unfortunately. Lots of phots of baby me bellowing at them though!!

I have to say 89 but If were gonna be realistic the Cans are the best.
Also I am almost offended that classes 70,71,74 havent been included while were at it we should include EF1 AND EB1 http://www.lner.info/locos/Electric/ef1eb1.shtml.

And finally ES1 http://www.lner.info/locos/Electric/es1.shtml.

(EE1 actually only ran once and was deemed a failure if I remember correctly)

Well, good point, I had forgotten how good the 92s are. Been over 2 years now since my first and thus far only 92 bash with 92003!

So 87s and 92s for me, but I've more experience with 87s and do enjoy them. But give me a 92 and I'll still be very happy!

Close thing between the 82's and 84's as during the 70's they were the most difficult to get haulage, 81, 83 and 85,s could be found deputising for 86's on Glasgow- Birmingham, manchester and Livrpool but the 82's and 84's were rare beasts. had a few haulage by them includding overnights and always looked good on the front, shame that they had a tendancy to fail. Worst ever was an 84 out of Glasgow Central on a mystery tour. Got as far as Polmadie and died.
Still thought they looked individual.
Dont forget the 81's - 84-s were the forerunners for the current electrics as 25kv was uncharted teritory when introduced except for a few small stretches.

Close choice between 81s and 85s but as I had more mileage off them as there were more to go at than the 81s I voted for 85s. Electrics never quite the same for me after all the roarers went but I did get a soft spot for 86s towards the end and in particular in Anglia. The AC LocoGroup has done a fantastic job in preserving/mainlining their collection of electrics.

However, 76s would've been my choice had I seen a few more working and a few less dumped at Reddish and Guide Bridge.

when i was i kid i asked the driver if i could look in the cab whilst spotting at Euston and he said yes and at that momment it got the road. I went to get out and he said stay there and we left the station waited outside changed ends then went back in on another platform and coupled up to another rake of stock so as this was my only electric loco cab ride i have gone for the class 85.

Gone for 81, but liked all the roarers equally.
Fantastic sound, and have happy memories of being bounced around the cab of an 85 when on my Secondmans course!
There always used to be an inch or so of water washing around between the windscreen panes on an 85, hence the name "Goldfish bowls".

91s for me because they hauled the LEGENDARY GNER trains through York station!
