I thought, since so many people talk about their favourite trains these days, what is everyone's least favourite stock? I don't just mean stock that you don't enjoy riding, what trains make you go 'Oh No!' When they pull up? For me it's the 142 143, 144, 150 and 156

Mine has changed over time. When I started around 84 I hated Kettles. Didn't get them at all (love them now). By the late 80s I hated 31s.. cleared all those still running and just got bored of them. Then I turned on the 101s. I loved all 1st Gen DMUs, so many great types and somehow the most boring one out lived the rest [I think part of my dislike was down to Graham Farrish as the 101 was the only N gauge DMU they made for years]. Now? probably the 90s. I saw the first 6 "87/2s" at Crewe being built and chased my last one (049) for years...but...I mean..bring on the 88s!

I like all but the 150 on your list.
I hate Meridians as HSTs are better.

Most of the hate for trains is because they are used on lines which need more cars or speed. The majority of trains (if maintained) are fine.

I don't mind the Class 150s, but they're my least favourite unit type in Northern's fleet. I can't wait for them to be refurbished.

Class 143s, Class 220/221s, and a Haymarket Class 158!

Anytime I ask for allocations and the wrong train turns up makes me say "oh no!" too, actually.

185s. Of course they're brilliantly engineered, perhaps too much so from a weight and fuel consumption point of view, but they're just ubiquitous round these parts as well as being far too small for the loads they're expected to carry. As well as them offering a little variety, I preferred the 170s for comfort too.

Roll on, the new TPE stock!

Also have a slight dislike for 333s due to the horrible grease-stains on every seat from 15 years of commuter hair product!

The cross country voyagers, class 220 and 221's.
Where do I start........from the smell, bad seats, fact that they have to few seats for the routes operated. The restricted profile and overall poor ambiance doesn't help.

This is all compounded by my view that cross country is run on a shoestring and it shows.

I haven't been on a EMT 222 for years but I don't recall being impressed with them either for many of the same reasons.

Having commuted on wired routes for many years, an "oh no" moment usually occurs when a 2 car DMU pulls up in place of a 4 car EMU. Other than that most stock doesn't bother me unless I'm travelling on an open return on a XC route at peaks and a 4 car Voyager rolls in....

Whenever a poxy four carriage 220 rolls up forming my service it's enough to elicit a silent mental groan. Woefully inadequate for the services that they operate. The 221s aren't much better due to the many shortcomings they share with the 220s, but at least with five carriages they almost seem like a proper train.

Any Pacer. Rode on one many years ago from York to Scarborough, was very glad that it was a 158 for the return trip!

Any time a two carriage pacer turns up in place of the usual three carriage pacer.

The first sign you get is when the people at the far end of platform 17a at Leeds start walking back down towards you with a look of despair on their faces. At first you don't quite realise what's going on, then it all clicks into place and everyone concertinas into a smaller section of the platform with a collective sigh.

Great train technological, but as a passenger it's rubbish with tiny windows, seats which don't line up with said windows and are rammed against the sides.

Got to be the 150's for me, god awful trains. Everything that is good about 153/155/156's is taken away.:x

Depends, as circumstances differ depending on length of journey and level of crowding. However as an all-round package, my worst has to be the class 700. It's simply the most uncomfortable train on the railway, perhaps rivalled only by the Merseyrail interior Pacers.

455s ... I utterly hate 455s flipping shoeboxes !!!!

Not fond of 317s when I was over on GN but 313s were acceptable.

Despise MerseyRail 508s, 142s with bus seats and also the EMT HSTs. I could of course go on :)

Get in - I get to slag off voyagers again! Horrible things.

I don't hate Voyagers persay, just when they are used in 4/5 car formations on paths that could easily fill double. Which is most of the services between Birmingham and Leeds / York / beyond.

But I have remembered the single biggest ever stock related groan....

Many years ago at South Elmsall waiting for rhe 06:38 to Leeds which was always booked as a 321 and often filled up by Wakefield. Bit this one fateful day a lone 153 rolled in from Doncaster, already 5 late and almost full.....

I think you're right about this. The VTWC 221s seem to be in much better condition, and have far more pleasant interiors, than any of the XC Voyagers. They also seem to smell slightly less, but maybe that's just my imagination. :D

A few years ago this was mine, but I oddly miss them now. Possibly the most basic carriages there were.

Whilst being far from hating them, I think the sheer number of Electrostars is starting to bore me. especially as now they have taken over North of the river and will be taking over to the west of London too. You won't even be able to get on a gatwick express to avoid one. In that respect I feel the electrostar/turbostar is like a modern day bog standard Mk1 derived emu/dmu. They're everywhere and have been in production so long!

I don't really have one. There are some multiple unit classes that I don't care about, such as the Glasgow 314s and Merseyrail units, but I don't dislike them. I even think that Voyagers are alright, I went to Edinburgh and back on one and my only regret was the lack of droplight windows. Having said that, I was in first class!

If we can include locomotives then I'd say class 40s, simply because they are overweight, underpowered and not particularly attractive.

Pendolinos. Vile trains - no window view out from many seats and seats that give me back/neck ache after 10 mins sitting in them. Whoever specified and designed them should be shot.
