Not forgetting digging up the platforms again to install tactile paving (unless they are going down the ridiculous route of glueing them on top of the paving - giving an extra trip hazard just where it can least be afforded and a much shorter life for the tactiles before they start to come unstuck.

lol, it does make me laugh. safer for blind people but dangerous for everyone else!

I've noticed now the nights are getting longer, that imo, the new pverhead platform lighting being installed is VERY dingy & gloomy.

Does anyone else think this or am I going loopy?

ECR footbridge was great until they lobbed them tile on it, that was during the rebuild late 80's early 90's. units would be shoved out as quick as they came in normally unless they were early...the underpasses were superb, tarmacked down and through, i guess since i was last there ( long time ago) its become a zit on the Brighton line...shame as i liked East croydon..

The underpass is no longer accessible from the platform.

Platforms 1 and 2 at East Croydon are currently having the height raised. On the assumption that this was initially just going to be the platform edges, I wondered if during wet weather the lower center part of the platform would flood. I notice yesterday that it does seem to be the whole platform height that is being elevated, including the floor of the retail outlet.

Does anyone know exactly how this will work for the lift access as presumably there will be a dip down to get in?

I noticed this as well, are they going to correct the lift access? Also they were making very good progress but it seems like the project is on hold?

Normally platforms slope downwards from the rail side, as a safety precaution to make it less likely that trolleys, buggies etc will roll onto the track. Usually therefore there is some drainage at the centre of an island platform - is this not the case at East Croydon?

There is no obvious drainage in the center of P1 / P2 and certainly not where the entrance to the lift is which is now in a significant dip.

Indeed. I see they raised a bit between the waiting room and the toilets it looks a mess, I generally hope they raise it all. I assume they will.

The lift area looks poor now with the big drop to it.

I think the modular approach to the platform raising on 1 and 2 has been quite good and the finish is excellent, but I can't immediately see how the lift access is going to be dealt with. I also wonder how tactiles will be applied to the other platforms which don't require raising as 1 and 2 have done. As I have previously posted, stick-ons will be prone to damage and will present a trip hazard.

Certainly better than this example I encountered at Dorking Deepdene the other evening!

Couldn't they just raise the sill at the lift entrance and adjust the lifts lower limit sensors?

That may be the answer, but the height difference is quite significant (I estimate about 10cm) and it may infringe standards for entrance height (I'm far from sure about that). Perhaps a compromise will be used with a small dip of about 5cm.

Today the last door of an 8 coach stopped right on the ramp, which made it awkward to get onto.

Really - why would an eight coach train stop so short on a twelve car platform? Anyway, how ironic when the platform raising works should be making things easier all round (assuming you're referring to plaforms 1 and 2)!
