West Midlands Daytripper 'code'

Hi all,

I've tried before to buy the West Midlands Daytripper (with the Leamington add on) at Leamington Spa but the ticket clerk has never been able to find it. I was wondering if anyone here knew the ticket office code so I could tell them and make my journey cheaper and avoid a change at Dorridge or Solihull en route.

It is available from railway ticket offices in the Network West Midlands area, so Leamington Spa may not qualify, but if it does, you'd be looking for the n-Network Daytripper ("Netwrk Daytripper") which might be C1D or G107. Instructions for issuing may vary by Ticket Issuing System.

Just to clarify a note on terminology which might be confusing matters. The Daytripper Add-on is what makes a Daytripper valid on the line to Rugeley Trent Valley via Cannock. For Leamington Spa, Kidderminster, Lichfield and Stratford (upon Avon) you need a Daytripper Plus.

It is available from railway ticket offices in the Network West Midlands area, so Leamington Spa may not qualify, but if it does, you'd be looking for the n-Network Daytripper ("Netwrk Daytripper") which might be C1D or G107. Instructions for issuing may vary by Ticket Issuing System.

It's actually two separate coupons/products. The Daytripper (G107) is as you state, but a Daytripper Plus (I195) must also be issued. No idea if it's issued as a Ranger or as a single ticket.

With regards to stock, within the nNetwork area the Daytripper is on special stock and the Daytripper Plus (or Add-on) is on common orange ticket stock. But I've seen these tickets issued on orange stock from Avantix machines too.

Ideally a Daytripper will be on special stock but it is also issued on usual orange stock from many LM-operated local ticket machines, so not a problem with it it accepted on trains (some bus drivers get a bit puzzled but pointing out the ticket description and correct price usually satisfies them).

I also can't remember if the Plus is a rover or a single but I know it's always seems to be issued on normal orange stock 'from' origin Daytripper Add-On (even though you might not have the add-on) 'to' destination Daytripper Plus, if that's any further help.

In that case. For the actual Daytripper, this is issued as a Ranger/Rover, whereas the Daytripper Plus will be issued from I194 to I195. Just checked this on BRfares.com and it gives a result.

I've bought them from the Virgin TVM's at New Street where they have printed on standard stock.

Seems pretty clear what it is. I would hope they would have seen one before and/or been briefed on the use of different stocks, it's hardly an obscure ticket. I've never had a problem but I've only ever used them on trains.

Off topic but... I did have a problem with a West Midlands Day Ranger being swallowed by the barrier at Coventry recently. The gateline assistant declared "you aren't supposed to put those through the gates" before fishing it out. News to me!

I've been told that a few times at Cathays when I break my journey there and it swallows up a ticket with plenty of validity left. I keep pointing out they should just program the gates properly it never seems to happen at any other barriers.

I raised this with Centro/Chiltern back in 2013. Centro replied that Leamington was operated by Chiltern so "not our problem guv" (to paraphrase) but we'll pass it on to Chiltern.

This is the reply I received from Chiltern after I'd prodded them for a response:

We have not received any correspondence from Centro, which, is why you have not heard from us sooner. This add-on is only available from stations within the West Midlands area, it must be purchased within the West Midlands Network area before travelling to Leamington Spa. As Leamington Spa is not within this area, it cannot be purchased from this station.
