I was in a hurry as I got to the TVMs in MIA (Manchester Airport) with about 3 minutes to spare before a train was due to leave.
The Services that I took had no first class accommodation,
MIA-MCO (Manchester Oxford Road) (1F99) MCO-CRL (Chorley) (2N28), both northern services.

Am I able to claim back the difference between the first class and standard class anytime single fares?

If so, how?

I have no idea what some of these stations are.

But in general, if First Class service is available on some of the trains that would be the reason why such a fare is offered. If you bought such a ticket but used trains that did not convey First Class, that is not the fault of the train company.

I can only suggest writing to Transpennine (who run Manchester Airport station, and therefore the ticket machines, I assume), explaining the circumstances and asking nicely. No automatic entitlement but you never know.

I knew that MCO is Manchester Oxford Road as I happened to come across it a day or so ago, but had to look up the NRE (no, not a station - Norwich Exchange, maybe) list to identify CRL. As it's in station rather than code order, it took a while to find Chorley.

I don't understand why posters do this - is it a bit of "look what I know"?

MIA = Manchester Airport
MCO - Manchester Oxford Road
CRL = Chorley

But yes, for clarity please use full station names at least for the first time they're going to be used. And if you use acronyms / station codes please define them.

The codes were used as I work in an industry where a lot of abbreviations are used and it has become a habit, sorry for the lack of etiquette.

FWIW, The CSR at TPE that I spoke to on the phone asked me to email a photo of the ticket to them and they would send a cheque for the difference.

Many thanks to BB21 for the advice

Having apologised for using acronyms you then go on to use even more!

That's brilliant, I would have tried to rebuff with indian food, but couldn't make the acronyms work. Bravo8-)
