BBC News said:
A bus has crashed into the front of a bank on a busy high street, killing one person and injuring two others.
An eyewitness said there had been two people trapped under the vehicle which has hit a Halifax branch in Darlington.
The driver of the bus, a 52-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The North East Ambulance Service has three crews at the scene, including a hazardous area response team, trauma paramedics and a helicopter.
See live updates and latest developments on the crash.
Eyewitnesses have described the accident, just before 11:00 BST, as "horrendous".
John Dodsworth said: "It's all gone crazy in town. Someone said a lady was under the bus."
A force spokesman said: "The bus left the road - we don't know why - and has crashed into a Halifax."
Crews from the ambulance and fire services are at the scene of the crash
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue said it could not confirm if the injured people were pedestrians or bus passengers.
The Great North Air Ambulance said medics treated a woman, believed to be in her 50s, for a serious lower leg injury.
Shops near to the crash, between the Northgate and Crown Street junctions, have been closed and police officers are moving bystanders.
A road closure is in place from St. Cuthbert's Way roundabout to Crown Street. A pedestrian cordon is also in force from Marks and Spencer to the pedestrian zone at the top of Crown Street.

It's also one of the buses with a roof mounted gas tank, the pictures show the outer skin has been damaged.

I'm not quite sure oops is the correct response to an accident where somebody gets killed either, tbh.

I'm really sorry for all concerned, including the driver, should it turn out to be his fault.

Hmm, no chance of a quick withdrawal then?

Jokes aside this is terrible and hope anyone and everyone involved is ok.

I dont know much of these gass powered vehicles, is the stuff particularly dangerous? Purely interested.

I hear there's also been another bus crash on the Cambridge Busway - Stagecoach single decker.

Seems to be more concern about a bus.....

Where? Because I happened to mention it was one of those buses with a gas tank on top?

I was more interested in whether it was a danger in itself. As a frequent visitor to Darlington when passing through to visit my father and seeing these buses regularly, I was simply interested. The kids call the top part a 'surfboard carrier'.

I agree with others that a rather flippant "oops" is totally inappropriate, somebody has lost their life and this will have been a shocking experience for all concerned.

No, because I thinking more the "look at the pictures" remark. Perhaps a bit of levity now.

In September 2011 the Neasham Road in Darlington was struck. Line Darlington (going southeast) to Middlesbrough.

I agree and I would urge all contributors to show some respect and sensitivity to any incident where there are injuries, never mind death. When someone loses their life flippant comments and jokes are just not appropriate in my book.
