Couldn't they install something other than the rubbish Train FX PIS, that gets caught behind on station stops!
I once had a 165 which thought Twyford was Taplow!
I don't know what the system on the ATW class 158s is called, but it seems to have a similar problem (with request stops). It doesn't announce request stops in the normal list of calling points, so leaving Llanelli on the 16:04 Cardiff-Fishguard the other day it said "calling at Pembrey & Burry Port, Carmarthen, Whitland, Fishguard & Goodwick and Fishguard Harbour". On leaving Pembrey & Burry Port, I think it said something about informing the guard if you want to alight at Kidwelly or Ferryside. Then, after calling at Kidwelly it said "calling at Whitland, Fishguard & Goodwick and Fishguard Harbour", perhaps it thought Kidwelly was Carmarthen. The passengers sitting opposite me then started speculating that they had received a call from Carmarthen saying nobody was waiting for the train there and that we wouldn't call. Some pepole place too much faith in the PIS I think; we did call at Carmarthen of course, by which time I think the PIS was saying next stop Fishguard (can't remember if it was the harbour or Goodwick).

Indeed, for some reason with the ATW 158 PIS, it doesn't list the next (mandatory) stop. It happens at every stop as I saw when I was travelling back from Pwllheli earlier in the week, but it wasn't out of sync. E.g. upon leaving Welshpool it said the next stop would be Shrewsbury, but then, shortly after this, a scrolling list of stations appeared saying "Calling at Wellington, Telford Central..." etc.

I actually think the way it deals with request stops is acceptable due to the uncertainty of where the train will stop. I.e. At Penrhyndeudraeth it says something like "We are now at Penrhyndeudraeth. The next stop is Harlech. If you wish to alight at Llandecwyn, Talsarnau or Tygwyn, please ensure you tell the conductor." I do have a recording somewhere, I'll see if I can find out how to upload it.

I imagine it's difficult to code request stops as it seems to update with the doors being released so it would easily get lost not stopping at stations, and I think ATW opted for the best option, even if request stops only get announced after leaving the last mandatory stop before. The guard will often make announcements for stops that have been requested by passengers on the train anyway, advising them about low level platforms, or where to alight.

From what I've seen on trains running to Weymouth, the GWR PIS just unhelpfully completely ignores the request stops. It also gets confused when extra carriages join for strengthening or if the local door only is used. Slightly concerning when these 150/2s are going to be operating on lines where these are likely to continue to happen.

I was on a (FGW-liveried) 150 with the new PIS on a run from Exeter to Barnstaple a while ago. None of the request stops were listed, except –*bizarrely – Newton St Cyres. The only problem there was that although we did actually stop there (for once!), only the local door was used, so the PIS was still stating that it was our next stop as we arrived into Crediton. Not too sure what was done by the guard to sort it out, but for the Eggesford and Barnstaple stops it seemed to be fine, even with stopping at most of the other stations en route, albeit not announcing them.

(Was a rare all-shacks service that even had passengers at Portsmouth Arms!)

Interestingly, last time I used the line, Portsmouth Arms was a hive of activity. Three people off, two on and someone else waiting on the platform! Does make you wonder if more people would use it if it got a better service. I notice that it had over 1000 entries/exits last year, not bad for a station that gets just two trains in each direction a day (most days)

I haven't yet been on a refreshed 150 on the Barnstaple line (last time I had 2 x 143), but I shall keep an eye out for the electronic display boards in the future - not sure why Newton St Cyres would be listed though!

There was mention of the use of these on the Cardiff - Portsmouth route on the GWR twitter feed; they confirmed it was being investigated.

https://twitter.com/GWRHelp/status/740667228220235777

They've done some timing runs already, but I think they want to see what's found when the first ScotRail bound stock goes off for power door fitment and general overhaul before fully committing.

Only just seen this. Notwithstanding more recent developments, would this even have been possible? I didn't think HSTs were cleared over the Bursledon bridge.

Class 43 power cars still aren't cleared at all according to the latest public sectional appendix. That's why recent HST charters and footers have run via Eastleigh and the Botley line. Many locos seem limited to 15 mph over the Hamble bridge as well.

But this is getting a bit far away from discussion of liveries, perhaps we should probably leave it as a twitter operator's well meaning comment but without specialist knowledge.

If anyone could possibly get pictures of the coachletters on the unit, as well as the location of bike/wheelchair symbols, it'd be very appreciated! :)

Indeed it's out and about. Few pictures online, Not much to report from the pictures other than it's a 158, in green, with the original BR & Richmond seats and a new LCD PA System. Slightly disappointed, I thought this could and would be the chance to pull off an ScotRail / ATW Style refurbishment with power sockets et all. But I suppose as it's effectively a temporary franchise extension, this is what we'll see.

The GWR livery looks very good on it.

150001 was 'hiding' in the workshop at Reading depot this evening so I couldn't see it in green. Has it broken down again?

Although I did see 43002 working towards Frome, which looked better in the flesh than it does in the pictures

"aboard this service to Cardiff Central Please" has more than a few shades of @BART_ebooks about it.

I mean, I know it's probably an initial or trial implementation, but how is it so difficult for the people programming PIS/CIS to make sensible use of line breaks?

I haven't seen anything about 43040. Is it scheduled to return to traffic?
There have been lots of speculation regarding its livery although it is not confirmed.
Thanks,
Ross

If it's the same system used by the Turbos then it doesn't seem possible at all.

That should probably have said "Great Western Railway welcomes you aboard this service to Cardiff Central Please do not attempt to board or alight from the train when the doors are closing."

carpet already looks really grubby and worn!

If it's anything like the carpet in HSTs, they'll need to replace it regularly. I do t know why people seem to dislike the much better FGW colour scheme, I still feel it looked and felt of better quality, and the darker colours wore the ware and damage better than this new scheme. I had the Green Turbo the other day and that is looking dire, after 10 months.

Is it me or does the green at the top make the BR seats look squarer?

Have the original seats been hardened like the 159s, or is it just a retrimming of the seats?

yet to see one of the green trains in any capacity so I couldn't say, however, I think it might be better off with a vinyl floor like on the 150's, but with a green fleck in it, and then green highlights, and a fairly plain dark seat, enough to still show that the trains are green from the inside, but still respectable and modern, the green head backs look like astroturf! I'll stick to my 143's I think

Myself I hate the god awful light green headrests, I would have much preferred a light brown colour, as for the carpet, well its ok but something a bit more like GWR and not XC coloured green would have been nice! The new PA on the 158's looks horrible, why not keep is standard like the 150's or ATW 158s?

I'm just glad to see new carpet on a GWR 158, some of the carpets on most of the other GWR 158s are very threadbare/grim.

I generally like the new GWR livery, but the light green on the seats does look a little odd. I am actually a fan of previous FGW lines liveries, and although now they look slightly tatty, I think the local lines livery adds a nice regional touch to the units - I think the livery has done well.

My bet is the PIS almost certainly says "Welcome aboard this service to Cardiff Central Please do not attempt to board or alight from the train while the doors are closing."

Where did they get that carpet from?! Looks awful already...poor design. Also see not much has been done to modernise the interior as it were, such as the ATW versions (Which have modernised lighting and new overhead racks etc.)

I like the exterior design of the GWR livery, but the interior is a bit more of questionable. The 150s interior is alright - but hardly has a wow factor.
