Yes, but now is the case that 37/4s are working passenger trains that they can't heat, remember they were originally modified to work 4-6 coach trains, the ETH index isn't that high. So usually a genny van is provided these days. So no need for the ETH.

Even when off I think its still the case that the engine works harder, be it noticeable or not is another matter!

Buffer Puffers are normally heated using the locos as putting a genny van on would mean the passenger carrying coaches would be brought down to just 4, and god knows what the price would go up to

Specially as next years BP has been put back to Winter next year, heat is most defiantly needed. ;)

Your getting Sheds!

37412, obviously for a short train like the Baffa Paffa then the 37/4 on the rear can heat it, I'm on about the 12 coach jobbies every other weekend. Which do have genny vans.

Though, cant 2 37/4s heat 12 coaches?

Noo... Scotland are getting sheds and the BP is being delayed this year so we can get tractors later on and not shed nonsense.

IIRC, only the loco on the inside, or on the rear, can heat the train, as the leading loco won't be connected up.

Had plenty of WCML sets with a second engine dead inside and had heat so a dead engine can carry ETS through, in those cases at least.

Similar scenario to 'through piped' steam heat locos or vans I presume.

Yes, I believe however more than 1 loco cannot provide ETH at the same time.

So the front loco piloting could provide ETH but the train engines supply would have to be switch off.

I believe it was someone footling with the genny van on a tour that resulted in 37417's wiring getting cooked.

37417 was supplying ETH through 410 then onto us. Then, someone turned on the ETH in the genny van... We noticed as it went cold, plus we were getting away from stops slower. Then at Salford cresent it was obvious something was up when they shut both 410/417 down. 417 starting back up fine with 410 taking several attempts! (might had been the other way round).

Thanks for clearing that up :)

Oh I remember that night.
Screwing up half of manchesters services for 2 hours in the process. Delicious!

Nice. Getting decent timings didn't last long then!

Yes and the prices seem to be creeping up to, weren't there early tours about £40, most now about £50. Mind you it's still alot better than £70 for this shufflex in a couple of weeks and with the ECS preumably having to do Carnforth - Poole then you can understand it!

I should think their prices very much depends on what they are charged for traction and stock and as you say ECS moves. The further south a tour starts the more expensive it is likely to be which would explain why not many tours start in the south.

Flapping a bit arn't you about walking to/from a hotel? Sure the others will make sure you don't get killed

Thought you'd be on the last unit to Poole for the 'throughout or not at all' mileage anyway....
