I've got to ask though, does anyone know why on the recent repaints, the front hand rails have all been removed?

Seems to be up and running again now - running about 10 minutes late according to Realtimetrains.
Fair enough - was advised earlier there wasn't a driver for it, I guess they've sourced one!

Is anything being done to the inside?
Shows what can be done to an old train to give it a complete refresh I guess.
Is this the same as the first set internally, just a repaint like the later 166s or the revised interior smilar to the 150s?
Standard C6 overhaul, so visible element is just external repaint with no internal work.
Incorrect. Full refurbishment in addition to C6 work, new interior decor, TrainFX APIS and accessible toilet fitted.

No I don't think so - I believe JN114 was referring to 150001's work.

150001 entered service this morning, then came back out of service with a technical fault - 166210 is now working its diagram for the rest of the day. Will aim to get some pictures when it returns to service, possibly tomorrow or Monday.
These overhauls sure aren't doing any good to the trains, have any of them come back without any issues?
Was talking to one of the depot managers at Reading about this - the explanation he gave, in somewhat of a layman terms, made a lot sense:
When the units go for their overhauls/major exams all the bits are, in effect, rattling loose or wearing out. When they come back everything is tight and shiny and new, but this isn't the trains optimum running condition - bits break a lot more easily. Once they've had a few good runs under their belt they settle down then. While the frequent failures of units fresh off works is frustrating, once you put them in that context it makes a lot of sense.

That does make a lot of sense actually. Would seem best to try them out with some test runs before starting service, but I guess they're already pressed for stock as is.
DeletedI can understand that, but I'm surprised that issues are cropping up after returning - some units are making fairly lengthy trip backs from Springburn/Kilmarnock/Doncaster/Loughborough or Wolverton. I suppose the answer for how many runs required for things to settle down is just like the answer for how long is a piece of string.

And drivers/ guards to do the 'bedding in'!
The best way to bed the train in is to put it into service, things will loosen up as they get used but sometimes they can stick/jam which can cause the train to come out of service needing some WD40/hitting with a hammer to loosen things up a bit quicker.
