Failure in the Severn Tunnel

Failed train in the Severn Tunnel earlier, caused delay to the 1445 London Paddington to Swansea (already held up thanks to a delayed Portsmouth train). EWS sent something out to drag the failure out of the tunnel.

No loco IDs known, gen from my non-crank sister.

Somehow this meant the 1603 BRI - AVN and return were cancelled. This despite the inward unit running on time and both a driver & guard being available.

I think Bristol City have some questions to ask!

Very typical it is. Always sounds weird when you're waiting at somewhere nowhere near where the incident took place and you hear your train is delayed. Like last year James and I were at Southampton Central and a Voyager was being delayed heading towards Bournemouth.

"...this is due to vandalism, at Crewe"

The voice just made it sound so funny and resulted in us two going "AAA?!", then we discovered it was coming down from Glasgow. We couldn't help doing the same sort of thing in fake announcements:

"I'm sorry to announce that the 0940 First Great Western High Speed service to Penzance is delayed by approximately 34 minutes. This is due to vandalism, at Scotscalder"

or something like that. Always seems to be a random-sounding delay that doesn't sound like it could possibly affect your train!

This wins I think: standing on Gatwick platforms in the freezing cold at 10 past 6ish in the morning, cheery guy comes on the Tannoy "We're sorry to announce that the FCC service to Bedford is currently delayed by 40 mins, due to an incident earlier this morning in Miami..."

Beach Line services are always the first to get cancelled at Bristol, they always nick the crews to work other services. Its part of FGW stratedgy plan for when things go wrong. 0740 ex Gloucester and several other services were delayed AM due to stupid driver thinking they could cross the crossing at Horton Road - whilst they were down...... Narrowly missed Gloucester - Weymouth 150 which had just departed! (And I mean NARROWLY)
