2) Henbury Loop (St Andrews Road - Filton Abbey Road) for "Bristol Metro" (like others am assuming Portbury is happening)
3) Bristol Temple Meads - Mangotsfield - Yate - Thornbury (Again for "Bristol Metro")
4) Fareham to Gosport (Why it has become a guided busway heaven knows!)
5) Tweedbank to Carlisle

My 5 would be as follows:-

1. Skipton to Colne, plus the redoubling from Colne to Gannow Junction.
I have always supported this reinstatement, because it links East Lancashire with the Aire Valley. It should never have been closed in 1970.

2. Cross Gates - Weatherby - Harrogate - Ripon - Northallerton.
I include this as one reopening, because these lines to my mind are one line.
In the past a number of Trans Pennine services used this route to avoid reversing at Leeds.

3. York - Market Weighton - Beverley.
Again to me another route that should never have been closed.

4. Okehampton - Bere Alston.
Need anything more be said about this?

5. Chinley - Matlock.
Yet another route that should never have been closed. More shortsightedness from our short term politicians.

There are others I would support such as:-

3. Thornbury branch (currently open to freight traffic as far as Tytherington Quarry)
4. Sharpness to Lydney (small matter of rebuilding a bridge...)
5. Severn Beach to Pilning link reinstatement (ok unlikely to happen, but I can dream)

Ok its still used be Freight but Passenger Services could work aswell, The Buses that run where the Stations would be are always packed and standing! (1 said route is just getting upgraded to Deckers!)

2. Carr Mill Railway Station
Shut in World War 1 but back then hardly anyone lived there whereas now loads live there, Could also build a P&R to get people off the East Lancs Motorway

Carr Mill is served by the Arriva North West service 352 that connects two large towns of St Helens and Wigan and en route, also serves Billinge, Orrell and Pemberton.

There is a 15 minute service provision and there are both early starts and late finishes shown in the timetable.

This is a simple concept: which 5 reopenings do you support the most? Name them! I'm mainly referring to line reopenings; however, you are also welcome to list 5 separate stations on lines that are already open too.

I'll start us off with my top 5:

1. Levenmouth
2. Dunfermline to Perth
3. Ashington & Blyth
4. Hawick
5. Washington

The reason why I didn't include HS3 is because that would be an entirely new line. Similarly, I'm not counting the Woodhead Line despite supporting a new high-speed line from Manchester to Sheffield through the tunnels; I'd consider this more a new line than a reopening.

As for Dunfermline to Perth, that would probably start off as an ordinary line and then be upgraded. I'm not sure, but that gets a mention here.

Hard to think of five, but from a purely "useful to me" perspective (ignoring viability), I'd suggest:

Hatfield to St Albans Abbey

Oxford to Sandy (allows access to WCML, MML and Western Region from ECML without having to go via London)

Shelford to Sudbury

I have walked the line from Stainmore to Belah and back a few times and the views are stunning. As an eleven year old, I was allowed to travel on my own from Workington to Carlisle via Maryport and to Penrith via Keswick when holidaying with grandparents. Both destinations were just over a shilling half day return. On a visit to Penrith in 1961, I realised that the DMU travelling south along the WCML was a service from Penrith to Darlington. With fear of not getting back from Darlington I got off at Kirkby Stephen and caught the next train back to Penrith and then Workington. Sadly, I did not travel over Stainmore before the line closed in 1962 either.

Leamside combined with Stilllngton upgrade, but reinstate the link from Thorpe Thewels to Stockton Cut as well. It will mean bypassing Stockton, but faster junction and linespeeds would be a brucie bonus here directing traffic onto Eaglescliffe and picton for ECML and via thornaby into Middesbrough - Loations served would potentially be Washington, Houghton Le Spring, Durham Belmont, Ferryhill, Sedgefield

Woodhead - Manchester-Sheffield High Speed plus the possibility of connecting Denton, improving connecions at Penistone etc

Lewes - Uckfield - Already being looked at as part of BML2

Waverley Route - Connecting Hawick and other borders towns (Which idiot rebuilt the bridges as single track?) and an alternative anglo-scottish connection

Tavistock - Alternative to Dawlish plus reconnection of many communities in an area otherwise poorly served by bus

All 5 routes are potential backside covering and very useful diversions which have the ability to generate traffic of their own
