Hi guys,

Tomorrow (Monday 4th) I intend to travel on A Devon Ranger (Valid from 09.00) however I have a 16-25 Railcard and I am unsure if the minimum fare applies as NRE states

'Please note: A £12 minimum fare for Single and Return tickets, applies between 04:30 and 09:59 Monday to Friday except on Public Holidays or during July and August. See Minimum Fares for further details.'

Thanks In Advance,
Ollie

I used to use a Devon Day Ranger with a YP railcard on the 09:26 SWT departure (so before 10) on several occasions.

As a result I'm pretty sure that the minimum fare doesn't apply; or at least I was never picked up on it!

Actually, if it wasn't valid, surely they wouldn't have sold me it or said "well I can do the discount, but you can't use it until 10."

The Devon Ranger isn't a single or return ticket, the minimum fare does not apply.

Thanks for that louis97 - I was pretty sure that everything was all ok, but then when somebody asks the question you end up doubting yourself!

Railcard minimum fares do not apply by virtue of them being less than £12 to start with.

Even so minimum fares do not apply to advance tickets, plusbus or rangers.

Providing a source is difficult when the source is internal, and GWR have not provided any publicly available information; the same problem with regarding their de-restriction of GroupSave tickets.

Given this has been in force (allegedly) for a week already, presumably it is unenforceable if the source is purely internal?!

The 16-25 Railcard site says

A £12 minimum fare applies on all journey made between 04:30 and 10:00 Monday to Friday

It doesn't make any distinction between journeys on return tickets or journeys on ranger/rover tickets.

Source is terms & conditions on back of National Rail 16-25 leaflet: condition 7 "for journeys before 10am Mon -fri"

Well that's not universally true as it does not apply to Advance fares (or at all during July/August)

For anyone reading this after 15 May, minimum fares DO now apply to Ranger and Rover tickets on GWR.

Doesn't look like it to me - the GWR website is still willing to say me a Network Railcard-discounted Thames Branches Day Ranger for £12.90 (i.e. 10p less than the minimum fare); see attached.

In the context of this thread it was a 16-25 Railcard.

For clarification:

Minimum fares now apply to Rangers & Rovers for holders of 16-15 or Forces Railcards.

There appears to be a reminder in the Weekly Retail Circular issued on 30th April about this, but I don't seem to be able to access the issue from 23rd April, and both issues from 16th and 9th made no mention of it. I assume that further details were given in that issue from 23rd April?
