Another station exposed in a different way would be Carstairs, the surroundings aren't altogether picturesque.
\Where a 19thC Station Master asked to be moved elsewhere due to isolation and extreme isolation. Cannot imagine what anyone would do there in the depths of winter apart from write poetry (and drink) - or both..:roll:Dduallt on the Ffestiniog Railway..
Cornbrook (Manchester Metrolink) has very similar attributes, and is legendary for its windiness. It is also the main interchange between most of the network's southern branches.
Doleham? (On the Marshlink)
Oh yes, I second London Bridge in the freezing winter....
I've often wondered what conditions were like on the West Coast Main Line prior to the opening of the M6. I don't know how many stations there were in past times - not very many, I'd guess - but they would surely have been very isolated, wouldn't they?

Correct me if I am wrong, but it there not a prison which you can see from the station?

A high security mental hospital - the Scottish equivalent of Broadmoor or Rampton.
Well there's not a lot at Shap and it's a pretty wild place in winter. Tebay isn't much bigger but of course up until the late 1960's it did at least have the steam shed which housed the Shap bankers. Tebay was also a junction station with quite a few railway cottages.
...three pubs, a small supermarket, a fish and chip shop, an antique book shop, a butcher's shop, a primary school, a newsagent's, a coffee shop, a ceramic art studio called Edge Ceramics, a fire station, a shoe shop (New Balance factory shop) an Anglican church and 3 B&B/ Hostels. There is also a small library, this is in the process of being relinquished from local council control and being adopted by the community as part of a budget cutting measure.
What about the station they visited in Trainspotting? Ranoch Moor was it?
Boscarne exchange platform near Bodmin which existed from 1964 when the former SR lines were rationalised following transfer to the WR. Bodmin north was served by a railbus between it and Boscarne until closed in 1966. Boscarne had no facilities and no other access than by rail (rather like Smallbrook today)
I believe there is still a station like that in Ireland but I can not remember what it is called!

Manulla Junction in Co. Mayo; sits on the junction of the Dublin to Westport line and the Ballina branch.

Ah, "Frozen'Hard". Doubtless it got that nickname for a reason! There's not much at Forsinard on the Far North Line.
