No you can't and you'll get charged for a new ticket if you try. However, you can now use it on the services that transferred from Transpennine to Northern last month e.g. Windermere and Barrow in Furness lines.

Which means you cannot use it on the services at were taken from Northern. You just need to check the timetable to confirm that Northern is the operator.

Well actually some Northern issued free passes do allow travel on TPE, it depends which one it is.

Indeed. Northern traditionally give out "free train passes" to every man and his dog for various reasons. One or two do allow travel on TPE in certain circumstances, although this is normally noted on the pass.
