Hi guys,

I don't mind the wait. Knowing I'm on the next course is good enough for me.

Just wondering how the course is going for the ones who started 11th April.

Course going well. A lot to take in, but the instructors can't do enough to help us out. Had a few drives of various trains in the depot which helps put the theory side into practice and really helps the understanding of it all. We are probably halfway through the theory side of things, a hell of a lot of info to retain but I feel like it's sticking in the old grey matter. Got my first shift in the depot tonight just mirroring one of the shunters to see how the the whole process works, this should also help cement a lot of the theory we have learnt. Cannot say when the next course is as we haven't been told. Keep your heads up, if you're in the Talent pool then it's just a matter of time.

Thanks for the update Steve, it sounds very interesting. How did your first shift in the depot go on Friday?

Yeah it was great. Met a few of the guys we'll be working with and seeing the depot in full swing was also an eye opener. All in all a great insight of what life will be like once we pass out.

I have heard a rumour that there may be another course in September, but that things may also come to a halt for a while owing to EMT taking on redundant freight drivers into mainline positions as part of a deal with ASLEF thus slowing somewhat the progression of depot drivers which until now has been fairly rapid.

Hi LowLevel. Did you hear the rumour from a reliable source and was it that there may or may not be a course in September as things may come to a halt instead - or things might come to a halt after the possible course in September?

Any idea of the number of redundant freight drivers involved and which depots are taking them?

Many thanks.

There are 9 Freightliner drivers on course at the minute doing the Freight to Passenger conversion course.

The source is reliable, I just can't remember exactly what they said and the detail is all important :(

I know there's 5 freight drivers going to Notts at the minute.

There is no solid answer. It is all up in the air over the pay deal I think. The next possible date for a course we have heard may be some time in October but that I think may be dependent on the result of the pay deal. As I said I don't think anything concrete will happen until the company knows what it is doing after the result of the pay deal.

OK, no worries. Thanks for painting the picture.

OK, so at the moment, it seems that there could possibly be one more course this year, maybe, perhaps, you never know. ;)

This doesn't sound too good for those of us waiting for the final stage of testing. Fingers crossed for some formal information soon.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

I rang and was told we should be getting an email next week and the stage 3 will likely be sometime after the 6th June, but that's not definite yet.

Well that's positive news. I'm really pleased for you all that the stage 3 is imminent.

I hope so - I emailed a week ago and had not heard anything back. I'm holding off booking a summer holiday because I don't want to miss out on this opportunity. I really want this.

Well stage 3 testing for me is on 28th June in Nottingham.

Anyone else got the same date for their stage 3?

I've booked to stay overnight at the Jury's Inn the night before my interview. It'll take the pressure off in the morning. If anyone else is doing the same and wants to meet up in the bar or for some dinner let me know :) I'm staying on the Monday 27th ready for my interview on the Tuesday 28th.

Hi Mate, I'm probably going to do the same but not yet 100% sure, but I'll let you know closer to the day if I'm staying over.

It's definately a question I'll be asking on my stage 3 testing day, if I get to the interview part.

The guys who interview you have nothing to do with EMT they are the same guys that held the first stage testing it keeps it impartial

Course is going well. We all passed our rules last week. Currently we have a weeks AL. Then we have traction when we return. No new news on a future course yet though. I think the pay deal votes have ended so company should know what they are going to do soon. For people going to do their assessment soon, are you all ready? looking forward to it?
