Surely someone will take the opportunity to put 43002 on the back of 41001's train? Might not get the chance to have the two retro liveries for a while..
But 41001 is not, and will not be, in general service. this could only happen at a preserved line - and 43002 would have to be dead as it's not electrically compatible with 41001 and the three trailers ( they're loco hauled versions, not HST versions ) which would mean it would have to be dragged whenever 43002 was at the front.

What's the problem with normal HST push-pull working with loco-hauled mark 3s? Aren't control signals sent via the lighting looms in either case anyway? HST power cars have worked in tandem no problem sandwiching a conventional mark 3 and loco-hauled test cars, or even a mark 4 carriage, in the early days of ride testing the SIG bogies used on the mark 4s..Why would dragging be required? They wouldn't be able to communicate through the LHCS Mark 3 trailers but all that would mean is only the leading power car would be powering the train in each direction. Not a big deal at preserved line speeds.

What was the method of working when 41001 was attached to one end of an EMT mark 3 rake on the Great Central (North) in late 2014? Leading power car only providing traction based on direction of travel, or could both be controlled in tandem?
Ah okay, thanks for the clarification. I wonder what the workaround was for the ECML tests then.HST'S cannot work in push/pull with LHCS mk3's as the coaches do not have the required 36 way jumper cable. The lighting cable method of control your referring to was used by the 47's on the edin/Glasgow dbso and the early days of west coast dvt working.
002 on Hereford and Oxford trips again today, wonder when it will ever attatch itself to a low density set and make its way down to these parts in the far west![]()
When the prototype was used at Ruddington with the EMT set it multiple up with 048 and the rake fine .
Anyone know if it will be out oon Sunday or is it just one of those allox on the day things

Ever so slightly off topic, but, (assuming) the fact it's attached to a HD coaching set, where do these sets work? I always thought it was "Pot Luck" to which coaching stock a location received on the day and at the time...
43002 ( which is one half of the original 253 001 ) is used on any GWR HST diagram; I'd advise checking on here the day before to see where she ends up on the 10th and early on the 11th to see if the day's workings have been posted.
The HD sets tend to to do oxford, Cardiff, Bristol, Worcester, the LD sets mainly Swansea, Plymouth, penzance, but there are exceptions, for example HD set with 002 on made it to Penzance yesterday.

Are there any diagrams that don't visit Paddington?
