Except they normally stable their HSTs at Craigentinny and Neville Hill. Wrong side of Sheffield.
Down the ECML and take a right?

Where would you "take a right" that doesn't involve going through the Sheffied PSB area (and is signed by XC drivers)?
Anyway, the point is moot
Indeed, so i've absolutely no idea why you keep banging the drum.

I have to say that W43002 looks rather hellfire!![]()
Indeed it did look quite nice. Good also that Sir Kenneth Grange himself was there for the naming. A good day out overall, even if the weather did close in for a couple of hours.Shame it's tacky vinyl, looks lovely otherwise!![]()
I didn't attend the event, but was moved to depart from my local pub for 5 minutes to watch the convoy of HST power cars and trailers pass through Bristol Parkway last night. A very strange train passing through at around 60 mph, so I didn't have much time to take it in, but all of the rolling stock in the train looked in pristine condition. I realised that open days are not about trainspotters, it's professional railwaymen (and women) putting on a show. Earlier this evening totally unexpectedly I observed a movement through Temple Meads presumably preparing for the departure of the return convoy tomorrow morning. The movement was headed by 08822 followed by the GC power car, then 08663 with VTEC 43300 bringing up the rear. The 08s were extremely bulled up to the extent that the connecting rods on 08822 (in IC livery) were painted bright yelllow, and those on 08663 (BR blue livery) were painted bright red. That's got nothing to do with history, it's putting on a show, an exhibition of pride. The introduction of the HSTs 40 years ago is definitely something worth celebrating. XC is a major operator of Intercity services through Bristol, and I think it's disappointing that they were the only TOC running HSTs unable to offer more than an eloquent apology.XC were most apologetic and explained clearly and eloquently to the event organisers why they cannot resource having a powercar away from their home patch over the whole Bank Holiday weekend. Had they had the spare capacity then they would have supported the event.
How about we drop the XC bashing and enjoy the exhibits that TOCs have been able to release. It's taken months of work and loads of people's unpaid free time to put the event on and complaints about 43xxx not being there might make people more reluctant to make the effort to organise these types of event in future.

Shame the rumours about 43040's appearance in IC Swallow livery didn't ring true...
How long is it going to stay like that?
Looks superb however there looks to be a difference in the shades of yellow on the cabs and sides which can only get more noticeable once the sun/carriage washer gets at the vinyls.
Or could the yellow on the vinyl be over painted?
It would have been better if it was an EMT power car than GWR! But beggars can't be choosers and all...
Christ, you would think the railway exists just to keep bloody trainspotters happy. You've no idea how much whining we've had about bridge parapets being raised too.
There's plenty of operational reasons why XC didn't send powercars to the jamboree, mainly the franchise being totally broke and not being able to afford the maintenance costs on the HST sets as it is, which is why they're parked up when they're really needed in service. XC know they can fill the HST sets on most routes, but they can't run them without making a considerable loss, it's cheaper for them to run Voyagers and have overcrowding and passengers left on the platform.
whats the difference between a an class 43 operated by GWR, VTEC, EMT, NR, GC & AXC.....ahh yes NO DIFFERENCE apart from PAINT work mainly
they are identical locomotives with a few modifications to front ends on a few of em..simple as that .
The major star is the SURVIVING PROTOTYPE...
i now remember why i dont go to open days now.....its the Gricers who moan about trivial matters such a TOC not sending a loco down...well its so important to you SPOTTERS all...YOU PAY FOR THE FUEL. TRAIN CREW, PATHING etc...£10k should cover it ..
Is there any reason to be uncouth like that?
No uncouthness detected. Firm but fair! it isn't for a TOC to pander to the desires of spotters. If they can provide and resource an exhibit than fantastic. If not, tough. As I said above, the needs of the operational railway must come first unless the costs are covered by a third party.
Well done to GC, EMT, FGW, VTEC and NR for finding a way to get their locomotives to the event. No criticism of XC for being unable to do so. Hard with their route cut in half at Sheffield..........
Doesn't look like 002 is out and about today...
43002 is looking lovely, hopefully it'll make a journey down to Penzance while still in that livery. Must say, it will look a bit odd with just the power car painted up!
