There are a lot more evening trains tonight so most commuters should be able to get home.

Almost amusing too that Southern have what looks like an emergency WTT extract on their web site as a supposed part of the passenger information element, with numerous abbreviations not explained, and railway jargon, etc., left in (e.g. "timing type", "operating chars", "notes", "from BDM")!

Yep I think that's an internal document that they've given a link to!!

I was stuck in a queue onto plat 9 at Clapham Junction. not sure why, as hardly anyone uses that platform, much less then plat 10.

Does anyone know why GTR ran the slimmed-down timetable all day, including in the evening peak, when the RMT action supposedly ended at 11am?

Wished I knew. I do know that mess rooms were full of staff waiting to work, and yet trains were cancelled due to a lack of staff. Something very fishy.

Nothing of the sort.
As has been mentioned, not easy to plan, but then the RMT knew that and deliberately chose a strike over two days to cause maximum impact.
Of course they conveniently forget that the staff on the stations, most of whom are RMT members too, get the flack from the travelling public!

One Thameslink train to Brighton was part cancelled due to staff shortages. What looked like the return journey, as the same.m stations were canceled, was canceled due to fault with the train!

Of course both could have been ture at the same time. Train develops fault at Gatwick but had been due to terminate early at another station. Full fixed so can carry on with next diagram.

I don't understand this - platform 9 at Clapham Junction is the down fast Waterloo platform which, although generally quieter than platform 10 (up Waterloo slow), is nevertheless very busy at times. The footbridge and subway stairs both lead to platforms 9 and 10 from one flight each, so how could you tell the queue was specifically for 9?

Yep we couldve worked. COuldve run an uckfield service in the evening, for example.

DOnt know whether GTR were trying to make a point, being stubborn or what, or just too lazy to put together a few diagrams.

I suppose the queue was for both platforms, but i wish they didnt lump plat 9 passengers with all the suits going up to London.

There are trains being cancelled today due to staff shortages. Is this related to the strike action or any other action such as working no overtime?

National Rail Enquiries say there are fewer trains between between Brighton and Southampton but there are actually delays and cancellations affecting services from Victoria too.

London Underground do something similar with the passage way from tube to platforms 8-11.

Before the Olympics they had decided to make it exit only. So passengers could leave but enter. However as soon as nit mention passengers were travelling they scraped that and reverted back to type, even during the Olympics itself!

Also delays and cancellations from London Bridge. Lots of conductors are not doing rest day working or are off sick or "sick". Southern's homepage has more information and propaganda

Southphern state that staff are not working the rear days they usually do and more have signed off sick than usual.

They have forgotten to mention that Southern have withdrawn the family passes for staff, staff parking permits and stopped those that strikes from doing overtime, ah and written antagonistic letters to their staff.

Therefore it is no surprise staff aren't working extra or are ill and trains are cancelled

I've noticed some trains have just simply been deleted from National Rail Enquiries App online departure board. The 17.24 from Clapham Junction to Littlehampton. The 20.14 Haywards Heath to Victoria.

The former was at least displayed on the departure board at Clapham Junction as cancelled. I assume the latter will be displayed at Haywards Heath station as canceled.

In top of that there has been broken down train, broken down train in front, congestion and passenger taken ill. Hope the passenger isn't to seriously ill. Not to mention trains being delayed for no given reason, on National Rail Enquiries.

Now there's a signalling problem at Gatwick Airport which is cancelling services, including the 21.03 Gatwick to Reading - which is starting short at Redhill. Fortunately I was on the 20.26 from Haywards Heath, which was actually on time and I was able to pick up the delayed 20.37 Southern service for Redhill. Wouldn't fancy being delayed an hour as I've got to be up at 4.30 tomorrow!

Okay, they can strike again.

My annual season ticket is £528.00, and my claim for 26 April (only) has just been paid. Rail Travel Vouchers to the value of £26.40. I'm looking forward to 'doubling up' when my claim for the following day is agreed!

I hold my season ticket on Key and buy other tickets through the Southern site, so find it odd that they send paper vouchers rather than just crediting my account, which would be more convenient for all concerned.

One cancellation this week, five days out of five, has been the 19.23 Brighton - Newhaven Marine. I do hope someone has checked that there isn't a group of 'parliamentary' obsessives stranded at the Marine, wasting away.

Well, this is interesting as there appears to be an engineering possession between Southerham Junction and Willingdon Junction from approximately 22:15 on Monday night. Surely Southern don't expect to get football fans home by replacement bus??

Southern now suggesting they will run the enhanced match day service to Falmer tonight, for the Sheffield Wednesday game.

Where has the crew resource come from, given at least one third of the regular Seaford branch trains have been cancelled every day over the last fortnight?

Well perhaps they are shifting the one third that is cancelled to a different time of day.

Is the enhanced service the normal timetable or additional trains above the normal timetable?

Another alternative is that they are cancelling other trains in order to run them. They could continue to claim staff sickness on those lines.

BBC News have taken a pic of Three Bridges subway. Are Thameslink trains to Brighton so busy that there needs to be a queuing system?

PTSO or platform depending on the weather

Yes this wouldn't be surprising as the BML is busy enough at the best of times, but as many Southern trains won't be running today, TL will be busier than normal. A queuing system ifrom the station entrance to platform level via the subway seems a sensible way of managing the extra passenger flows in order to reduce risk of overcrowding on the platforms (such as person falling under a train etc)

The platform at Clapham Junction was very busy this evening but everyone who wanted to board could, including a lady with a pushchair!

The train was packed to East Croydon with the guard apologising. Since then he is still apologising for it being extremely busy, yet I can see at least three empty seats in my carriage so perhaps it's more packed where he's standing or sitting, assuming he's actually in a carriage and not the guards compartment.

I had considered first class but wasn't sure if their was any benefit.

Just walked down to first class and no benefit. It doesn't even have plug sockets. Of course GTR are head of some others with their new carriages in that even many seats in standard class have plug sockets. That's no doubt just down to when the carriages are built. I'm sure other TOCs would have their new carriages built with plug sockets.

Just another announcement about it being crowded and bearing with them today. I only had to stand on the train for 10 minutes. Not as bad as some days when there isn't a strike on!

The 377/1, /2, and /3s were built without plug sockets and internal first class sliding door.....which couldve been installed when southern did their recent refresh of the units.....but of course they didnt.

Last evening the 1703 to Three Bridges was a 12 car working, with what must have been a management guard. At Clapham Junction, the first class seating filled up with East Croydon-ites even before he announced a declassification - people just don't care any more, and the short-lived re-appearance of TTIs has ceased again.

What did you expect, any semblance of quality and consistency? Southern are far from interested in such.

Blanket declassification for the strike day was publicised on the website and tweeted, so many folk would have been aware of this prior to the guard making an announcement.

Rightly, I suspect the RPIs have been told/advised to tread lightly whilst there remain a significant number of cancellations on the network, and hence many crowded trains.

Today is the ninth consecutive working day that the 19.23 Brighton - Newhaven Harbour has been cancelled, along with it's associated early evening diagram.
