Arriva Rail North/Northern Names

Hi why is the Northern rail still called northern as a new Franchise took over i thought it would had been called Arriva Rail North as thats who the Franchise was awarded to?

Also will they be staying blue or will the trains be turning green?

The company name is Arriva Rail North but trades as Northern. The trains won't be in Arriva colours and will be blue and silver just google something like Northern new trains and look at the images

In addition to what Adam0984 says, the franchise specification said that (effectively) franchisees can call the company whatever they like as long as it contains the word 'northern'.

There seems to be a trend now in the DfT to make changes less wasteful in rebranding now, so the 'new' Northern has similar colours to the 'old' Northern. Virgin Trains excepted, the focus is more on the individual company rather than the owning group.

The website has changed from northernrail.org to northernrailway.co.uk (but the old one redirects). All the trains I've seen so far (from the outside only) have had the Northern branding and website address removed but no new branding added.

We will not be getting New Uniforms for approx 18 months either. They gave Traincrew Magnetic name badges to cover up the old logo which lasted approx a day. I have no problems with name badges but magnetic badges and Avantix Straps do not go well together.
