GCRN diesel gala - feat. 56097

I would like to announce the latest diesel gala from the Great Central Railway (Nottingham). This season's gala is a much enhanced one to those previously, which were enjoyed by all! This gala will feature the following line-up of locomotives and coaching stock:

- Class 20s: 20007 (D8007), 20154 (D8154) - BR green
- Class 25: 25279 (D7629) - BR green
- Class 47: 47292 - Freightliner
- Class 56: 56097 (preservation debut) - Trainload freight coal sector
- Class 73: 73110 (E6016) - BR electric blue
operating with the following coaching stock:
vacuum stock (BR maroon):
- 2x mk1 CK
- 1x mk2A BSO

Air stock:
- 1x mk1 Gatwick Express GLV
- 3x mk2F Gatwick Express TSO/TSOH
- 1x mk2F Anglia RFB

Locomotives / units on static display (under restoration / stored):
- Class 37: 37009 (37340) - BR green
- Class 47: 47765 - RES red
- Class 108: BR blue / grey
- Class 116/7: BR 'Brunswick' green
- Various kettles under restoration
Other features of the weekend:
- A selection of real brunswick ales available on every train
- Snacks available from the RFB on the air braked train
- Snacks available from the trolley on the vacuum braked train
- Hot / cold meals available from the Heritage Centre at Ruddington.
- following HMRI inspection, the line speed has been raised from Rushcliffe to Loughborough via Barnstone tunnel.
- All trains will operate the full extent of the line (round trip 20 miles)
- Intensive timetable with trains passing north of Rushcliffe)
- Buses on display and model / minature railway open

Are you having a laugh? It has as much in common with a Class 03 as my Aunty Norah. It's a Ruston 165DE with a fake BR number. The fake BR number is based on a similar loco once allocated to Stratford, but even that loco had nothing at all in common with an 03.

"DMU in GW Green"? Errmmmm. I don't think so mate. Class 116s and 117s were built in the BR Era. It is (supposed to be) Brunswick Green.

It won't be possible to offer driver experience at this gala, so there won't be a chance to drive the shunting engines, nor anything else.

Please don't put out duff information like this, people that know what they are talking about would wonder what on earth was going on at the GCRN if any of this was true. You're not really helping by circulating inaccurate information.

As I walked down the yard at the weekend I did see a growbag with class 03 on it so with a little watering it will have grown for the gala

[rant]I don't know if you remember - but in last year's October diesel gala - the 08 was driver training - hence why I only put 'possible'. Secondly - the staythorpe - my mistake. I'm not a fantastic identifier of shunters. Thirdly, the DMU: Could have sworn there are GW maps (from the early TOC) but maybe it was GE... and secondly, I'm not a livery frother so I wouldn't know the difference between BR green and that. It's green with a white stripe and British Railways logos. And finally - it would be helpful if the GCRN board put out better info to prevent 'duff gen' being posted. Half the stuff talked about down there is rubbish anyway![/rant]

Sadly I won't be there but have spent a fair bit of my week there, I have to work, shame your moaning about the public but they do keep the railway open!!!
If you see that the railway is not putting out correct info why not talk to them and put ideas forward that way everyone comes out with better info

Has anyone ever done the "NCT" number 1 bus from Loughboro to East Leake shack and know whether it is likely to turn up etc, especially on a Sunday morning!

Yes it does generally turn up - however don't stay late because they recently removed late night journeys from the timetable.

no, don't go to Loughbrough. There aint a station there! I'd advise you to go to Nottingham, and get a bus to the site. I'll find bus gen for you now

EDIT: it appears that Trent Barton's website is down I can't rmember what route the bs takes, they recently enhanced the service to the point I can't remember (well, I don't use it often!)

I would reccomend going from Nottingham, as I am doing the same. If you are coming on the Saturday, I could probs meet you, but I'm not sure when I'm getting down!!

Well I enjoyed myself yesterday even with he timetable disentegrating into a total shambles. Rodent was superb as ever and the grid very good even for 25mph, two top classes there! Stock was in a bit of a state (we had the 3+van rake all day) nice musty aircons with dead flies, rancid windows etc but half expected. My 'normal' mate who was dragged along didn't complain too much sop can't have been that bad!

Bus to/from Lboro worked a treat so thanks for those who helped with that, even had time to rake in a quality chippy in East Leake village waiting for the evening return.

Phots when I get home at the end of next week - going via Glasgow on more top traction!!

the reason for the carriages was because we had to trace extra rolling stock after our vac rake was taken out of service as it needs tyre turning. Better than nothing though eh! Was doing the catering trolley, spoke to some nice people too

That's not quite right. One of the vac braked vehicles needs replacement wheelsets (not just tyre turning). However, the vehicle concerned was the brake vehicle in the vac braked rake, so there wasn't time to get the vac braked rake back into service before the gala. It will be back soon (Santas are coming).
