56097 unveiled in new livery

56s helped Virgin out in the times when thier fleet of 47s was, well, in shambles. I remember seeing a 56 towing a dead 47 at Brum once, bet the pax were happy at scratching something new :grin::grin:

Yes but the owner wanted to Paint it BR Green. I would of looked good, but I didn't think it should be on the 56. He could of done a Mainline 56 :P

No he didn't. I just got so sick of people asking me what colour it would be painted that on one occasion I said "BR Green" just to wind people up and see how gullible they were. Sure enough, it was repeated and repeated and suddenly became fact.

A livery that 47292 never carried, and very few 47/0s ever carried. Why it can't go into a sensible, appropriate colour scheme I will never understand.

Except of course Trainload triple grey, Loadhaul, Mainline, Transrail and all the rest are all pre-privatisation liveries. Sectorisation yes, privatisation, no.

From memory, there is room within the engine bay to modify and add an ETH alternator

Sorry, but that is complete spatial and technical nonsense. Not sure what memory of classs 56s you have, but I doubt you've ever worked on one then! The platform end myth that some fictional 56s were secretly fitted with the wiring for ETH is another classic. You need a bit more than wiring to provide an ETH supply.

Out of interest, I heard somewhere that you've carried out the mods given to those that went through the Brush/EWS overhaul programme. Fact or fiction? Someone I know is rather interested to know whether it has had anything done or not. Cheers

agreed, all froth. Glad to see the hard work your team has put in to it has paid off, as I see she is not far off being put in to public service will even give me a chance for some grid haulage! (even if I am doing the snacks trolley )

Painting a Class 56 in BR Green, is almost as daft as painting a Class 40 into BR Large Logo Blue, oh that's right someone did that too!
Ironically, the 40 looks good in BR Large Logo Blue (what loco doesn't?!), but BR Green is awful
At least in Triple Grey Coal it won't look out of place

Well i have to say well done to the lads who have giving so much hard work to 097. To this day i still think 56s look hellfire in coal sector (don't want to cause any paint froth just my opinion). be looking forward to bashing that some time in future.

We've done lots of reliability mods, many of which were also done by Loadhaul/Brush on the mini-mod programme, or similar Transrail ideas. For example, drain valves in the clean air compartment floor, and discreet roof guttering in various areas to stop water getting in.

We've left it cosmetically as it always was though, i.e. original clean air compartment roof grilles.

Once it has settled down into reliable service (it's a 56, will it ever?) we'll probably fit a more advanced wheelslip and slow speed control system. We won't remove the old one, so it will be possible to switch between "original" mode and "much better" mode.

That was painted black on saturday she ran a test run on Saturday with 5 mk2s and a class 20 in case of faliure, and it sounded hellfire! Thanks for the thrash driver

Its very nice to see picture of 97 but was premission for this photo granted by the owner of it to be used on here!!
Remember the person who has taken the photo owns the copyright, if they say yes all is well and good to publish the picture but if not you could get yourself into stick water and looking on the page which the picture comes from it does state at the bottom owner and copyrights
I myself have had this done to me finding my picture published on the web and after checking my rights I could have asked for a publishing fee!!!! which was enough for them to remove it double quick
I'm not want to be a kill joy but in this day and age you have to be very care what you say or do!!

But people generally don't see that and will more usually see me in my traffic roles during the day at weekends.

What time you actually do it in is irrelevent, every little helps as the saying goes.

So then actually managed to see the livery at the gala and my god is that some smart livery.
Just one question what was wrong with the loco as on the final run on Sunday a nearly ended up on the floor due to some harsh and frequent braking....

The loco developed a fault with the drivers vigilance system. We couldn't get it to cancel, the consequence being that the brake pipe is dumped and the brakes are fully applied. It is an important safety system, hence the "harsh braking".

Don't forget it's a 56, so all part of the experience

If the owner didn't want the picture being used, I would of thought it would of been explained with the link, and I would of thought there would be no problem as Miles is not trying to pass the picture as his. There is only copyright issues if:
1)If the person is trying to pass the picture as his own
2)He edits or uses the picture, like publications (such as Rail or Railway Magazine), or things he can make money out of, without prior permission of the owner of the photo.
Anyway...
I didn't get to travel behind 56097 at the Gala, but I got some good shots of it.
Was it me or was the 47 breaking a little harsh aswell? it was at the end of Saturday!!
