Yes. 8 different channels, lit digits, every channel had something on it.

Sulzer25: Glad I be to hear not everyone else has an enjoyable journey with the 170s. I agree with everything you've said there. The refurbished 170s with AXC look nicer though, although the colour of the carpet is going to prove to be a silly one eventually.

Phoenix: I don't envy you having to put up with AXC daily for the next 3 years. I can't put up with that, especially if it was only 170s.

I will add that the statistics I posted last night do not include journies made with the ex-Central Trains part of AXC, just the ex-Virgin part. Which isn't to say I've had it that good with them, only 75% of those trips (about 6 of those I think) were on time. And one of them (Cheltenham to Gloucester) will always be memorable as the seat was wrecked and the seat cushion came off the seat with me as I got up to get off!:roll:

170s are excellent trains. Do Not fit them with auto-announcers, perhaps the most annoying thing! Spoils the ambience and with voice levels anything on par with SWT (who have sadly fitted them to 158/9s) a relaxing journey is far from that. Quite frankly, I don't care if this station is X. You told me the next one would be X 2 times already!! argg

And yet similar units with FSR are well maintained, clean, well air conditioned normally and reliable. Maybe XC should send theirs to the Turbostar Technical Centre at Haymarket.....

Arriva deserve the criticism from everyone who moans at them, they ballsed up ATW for a long time (only now am I starting to see it running smoothly, this nearly 5 years into the franchise). They haven't proved to be any better with XC, much as I thought back in November 2007.

No-one will ever be able to convince me Arriva are any good with UK operations.

I strongly disagree, arrive never ballsed up the the franchise, it was ballsed up when they got it, theres had to be alot of work to bring it back to a half decent franchise. Even now I work for them, i would have been the first to admit they were sh*t when they first took over, but they had a shed load of work to do improving the franchise, and I'd say they have succeeded. Believe it or not, figures prove ATW is actually one of the best performers in the country, no matter what people say about them. It's just a shame they don't reward the staff who have put the effort in to get it where it is now - this is arrivas biggest down fall, and thats when the poor side of the franchise starts to show.

With XC, okay they may not be doing much better than VXC, but certainly they are doing well with the Central side of the franchise. I haven't worked on the railway long but in that time I've never heard a complaint about AXC. I've lost count of FGW complaints...

Fair point on the complaints side of things, I rarely have a need to moan about ATW these days (partly due to not travelling with them so often now), but FGW I will freely moan about on a regular basis. Passengers missing connections onto/off Marches trains at Newport though is mainly due to a shockingly small amount of connection time, especially when coming off a set from London.

That said, their MAA figures recently outperformed both NXEC and EMT. Which is quite an achievement, considering how good NXEC and EMT usually are!

The Marches connections are a pain in the neck, you get 5mins either way, which when you see the dumbass punters, is not enough when the trains do connect on time. It really is awkward, not too bad on weekdays for the connection to london as you do have half hourly service. But for people coming from London connecting with the marches, its hell when you have to tell them the next one isn't for an hour.
