Crosville Motor Services Ltd are pleased to announce that we will be taking over the operation of the North Fringe Bristol Commuter Coach service.

The award of such contract takes place from the 24th April 2016. The North Fringe Commuter Coach operates from Weston to North Bristol via Clevedon. This is an express passenger service and will see two new coaches being added to the expanding network of Crosville.

Crosville’s Managing Director Jonathan Jones-Pratt said “This is very exciting to see Crosville venturing into Bristol and it is also a great opportunity for further business growth as well as expanding our geographical area of operation. The service is currently being operated by Kings Ferry from which we have been in various discussions for a smooth transitional hand over of such project, in line with the agreed parties we will see this operation changing to the Crosville operation on the 25th April 2016.

They've already got two newish Yutong coaches with Southern National names (Their new, separate company) now not needed for HPC, so two new would take it up to four.

I note that Faresaver will be enhancing the X31 timetable in response to First's withdrawal from the Chippenham - Bath corridor:

We can confirm that we have a change to our X31 timetable which will come into effect from 25th April following the decision by First to cancel their 231 service. At this point in time we are not able to publish details of the timetable as we are awaiting approval from the relevant sources. What we are able to confirm is that -

We intend to provide some level of service to Furzehill & Kings Avenue.

We intend to operate earlier and later trips into Bath and Chippenham.

We will accept Wiltshire Council issued student passes until the expiry date.

Details of evening and Sunday services which are provided under contract to Wiltshire Council by First are currently being negotiated - further details once we have them.

For those who have not previously used our services we do accept concessionary passes after 0900 in BaNES and 0930 in Wiltshire on weekdays and all day on Saturday. Before these times pass holders are able to travel at child fares. Students up to the age of 17 and those over the age of 17 with valid student ID are also able to travel at child fares, under 5s travel free - when accompanied by an adult!

Just noticed that the Crosville website has a mockup of a coach in the livery for the Crosville Flyer, with the route described on the side as
Weston Super Mare - Clevedon - Portishead - Cribbs - Filton - Southmead

So, that answers my earlier query about Portishead.

But Southmead? And not MOD...?

When are the new bus stops at the Brunel Building opening? Surely there's not room for this as well as the new Wessex 2 there at the one current stop, it's horrendous already!

So if First are getting brand new buses for the U1 service in Bath, could that add to further difficulties for Wessex in Bath on its U18.

I've noticed most mornings now that a significant number of students queue and wait for the U1, despite the U18 service being cheaper on a daily ticket £1.80 v £2, and despite numerous U18 services going past them. Obviously the students don't mind waiting for the U1.

The new stops at Southmead are opening as soon as possible. There will be 2 stops (of which 24 will call) and an additional 2 layover stops but the car park shuttle won't run which will free it up a bit. So the overall situation will be better but still not perfect.

The 462 is just placing trips that then work school services and national express services.

Hardly placing trips (without South Glos have moved to Downend in the last week)! the 462 is the remnant of a service that's existed for many years and was, at one point, part of the original Bristol city limited stop services started by Avon County council.

The new registration is on the new company licence, replacing one on the trading name licence, however the change of number is odd (from Avon County Council independent series to Avon county council supported Bristol city series!)

Right and wrong I think. Quantock split the business in half with the heritage and non-heritage ops. It was the latter that went bust with BoS picking up the 10 and some school work.

Without seeing the reg, suspect it's the heritage half. All the above caveated IIRC

Well when I travelled on 300 in 2013 it was there open top single deck - makes me think it'll be the heritage co.

But why is there only a registration for it now? Did they put through a cancellation?

Their ex Stagey PS SD OT! Think it had a year round service at one point but now gone back to seasonal

The school bus work was sold to Berrys some time ago and most stage work ceased at short notice because of a hike in insurance premiums.

They are a major supplier of vehicles for the Taunton Running Day each year

It does help. I know the heritage operation is very much in rude health.

The stage work disappeared overnight hence emergency BoS contracts (incl som schools work) but I'd forgotten that it was insurance
