All being well a friend and I are travelling from Euston to Holyhead on a Virgin West Coast Special offer, just going for the experience of a route I have not done completely before.

We only have about one hour there. Am I correct it's not far from station to the town centre, just to get some food for the train back. Is there an easy and quick route to take ?

We have seats C 31 & 32 Out which states aisle and window view and D 7 & 8 back which shows aisle and window. Does that mean the window seat going up will have a full window as it mentions a view, but on the way back might it be partially obscured ?, limited view as it only says window.? I looked on the seat plan when doing the booking and neither said anything about a restricted view. I have never seen that wording on a booking confirmation before?

Thanks..

You might have better luck in one of the other forum sections. You'll be on a voyager, which in my opinion have good views and most importantly plenty of power. No idea which side of the train you'll be on I'm afraid, but the run along the Wales coast has some nice sea-views, and you get quite close to one of the castles (is like to say you go through it, but I may be getting mixed up with Thomas the tank engine)

There's a bridge from platform 2/3 to the town centre. I don't think it's directly accessible from Platform 1, which is where most Virgin services arrive. Follow signs toward the ferry terminal, and you'll see the bridge on your left just before you enter the terminal.

This is true: After leaving Llandudno Junction, you'll cross an embankment on approach to Stephenson's tubular bridge over the River Conwy. As you exit, you'll be at the foot of the walls of Conwy Castle on the right hand side. Moments later, you'll pass through the town walls and through Conwy railway station itself, before tunnelling under the far walls on your way toward Bangor and Holyhead.

You'll have plenty of time to get to the town centre and back. As others have said head for the bridge. There is a Co-op nearby iirc.

Thanks for the replies.

I did the journey from EUS to HHD on Saturday. I have not been on their voyagers very much and was quite impressed, as you say the window views are good, better and I think larger than on their pendalinos. We were on the coastal side of the train in both directions and the views were good, plus the bridges and tunnels as we were getting nearer to Anglesey, yes you do seem to go through the base of the castle, very unusual.

HHD, station is rather run down, but they were still using all three platforms. The bridge link to the town centre was fine, it was really quiet there.

The outbound journey was fine we arrived 5 minutes early, but on the return there was a delay shortly after leaving HHD, something to do with a pipe problem on the front unit, the train manager and driver had to get down onto the track and cut it off apparently. Then we carried on all the way to EUS arriving at 1811 or 1812, instead of 1739. The trains were not that busy in either direction, although a huge amount of students got on at Bangor on the way back, I presume they came from the university there and were starting their Easter Holidays.

It is a while since I used Virgin West Coast, I noticed on the main indicator boards at EUS, that they now put the arrival time next to each calling point of the trains and also the level of seat reservations in each carriage, quite a good idea. Do they do that at stations along the whole route? I wonder if Virgin East Coast will do the same?

They seem to have changed their uniforms a bit too, the chaps in their red pullovers looked very smart indeed.

In spite of the delay coming home, it was a most enjoyable day out.
