Subject? What planet you on Fred?

Duke of Edinburgh's Award is an extra-curricular activity thingy that many schools offer and is a good thing to have on your CV.

I've done bronze and I'm currently doing silver. Only pity is that we don't do ours with LGGS :(.

I think you can see where this is going :p It's drugs and ciggies doing the rounds instead (well, it was during bronze - I didn't partake)

I have Bronze and Silver, but didn't get a chance to do Gold, which is a shame coz I'd have liked to.

Your name just went on the list - again !!

Is this TheSlash's extra funding list for the North when the entire South Coast is flooded causing mass migration to the North and also causing a massive spike in Crime Rates? ;)

Did my Bronze in the Peak District, around Edale and the surrounding area.

Did my Silver in the Yorkshire Dales, mainly based around Settle.

There weren't many takers for my planned Gold expedition to Rannoch though.

* Cough * DofE leader hat * Cough *

5872 is right - DofE has to have a purpose to your expedition. Sadly, most schools seem to bypass that requirement, particularly at Bronze. At the end of every expedition (not practice) you must either write a report on your expedition in relation to your aim, or give a group presentation on your expedition in relation to your aim.

Example aims include exploring the causes, consequences and responses to footpath erosion, exploring the distribution of airwrecks in the Lake District, exploring the different types of Stile in Snowdonia etc etc...

As Gold section gets externally assessed, it shows when groups have not had to carry out an expedition in relation to an aim before - they tend to bull**** quite a lot.

Cheers, Maks

My brother did a DoE bronze and got it (I turned down the opportunity at school, seeing as it would involve me camping with a bunch of annoying 3rd years; bearing in mind i was in 6th year!). His aim was rather pathetic IIRC; I should really ask him what it was. It wasn't anything like makstaylor mentioned, anyway.

Gosh that first bit sounds exciting!

Don't people who pass Gold get to meet Prince Phil... for a chinwag about Skip haulage perhaps?
