Northern pacer diagrams

Planning a pacer (mainly 142) bash for a saturday in the future, using the newspaper offer. Aside from basically the Hope Valley, Penistone, Bentham and Brigg lines, where should I be heading for to get as much 14x action as possible?

Leeds - Huddersfield stopper

Knottingley Circuit

Leeds - Harrogate - York

Sheffield - Lincoln

Scunthorpe to Sheffield is usually pacer run aswell.
Look out for the 144e Pacer. It's the best!

Also Brigg Line has had 153's on sometimes, so be wary of that.

You normally get 142's on Southport - Manchester runs (in pairs), some of the Liverpool - Manchester Oxford Road stoppers via Warrington Central and Blackpool South - Colne.

These give the booked types and diagram numbers for all the trains using these stations although from experience don't take them as gospel as diagram changes do occur on a daily basis!

In a manner of speaking, yes... Although they couldn't get it over to Hull from the Manchester area, they held it on ins and outs from Manchester Victoria over a weekend for me to get to it. At all times, I was sent messages from the Northern twitter team giving me operational updates on its position so I could intercept it - which I ended up doing so!

I am certain that, if the OP has certain pacers in mind, they could contact Northern via twitter (if they have it) or send them an email asking very cheekily and ask. Based on my weekend rover adventures, I would suggest that Sheffield is the place to be as there was a ton of 142s and 144s there.

The normal people really like it with many assuming it is a new train! some of my friends were very excited about the new trains on Northern until I told them it wasn't a new train at all.............

(head up to the North East - Lots of lovely pacer workings there!)

The route via Chat Moss is but those trains start at the Airport. The Oxford Road starters run via the unelectrified route through Warrington Central.

Don't forget the Mid Cheshire line, (Manchester via Altrincham to Chester) regularly in use on there (sadly) except on Sunday's.

Sheffield-Lincoln gets some c.150 diagrams on Saturdays unless they've changed it since I was last there.

The Huddersfield line stopper is getting a bit more adventurous these days, 158's and 150's do appear.

The Huddersfield-Wakefield stopper is mostly a 142 Monday-Friday, although it can be a 150 sometimes. At weekends it's usually a 150 or sometimes a 153 but rarely a pacer.

Leeds-Sheffield slow trains are virtually always pacers.

The Penistone line is also a pacer hotspot.

The Bentham line is often a 14x but 150's do appear.

There are also quite a lot operating in the North East.

Quite a few of the Cumbrain Coast services are in the hands of 37+Mk2+DBSO so approch with care.The Stockport to Stalybridge service can also be a 150.
