Observations at Wabtec Kilmarnock.

Although not the best shots, but still not bad. I captured the 37 and three refurbished mk3's for the prototype HST.

I would like to thank Wabtec for being accommodating in letting me use their car park to capture these pictures.

Captured using my HTC one M8.

I have to say, I love the Europhoenix livery, and it looks extremely smart on the class 37.

Probably won't see it unfortunately. I can see why it's booked for early morning. If it is booked to go via the south western, then it would need to be early. The line is rather busy at the moment, what with various west coast trains traversing the line.

I've always been of the opinion that it looked bland when newly applied and quickly came to look very tatty and grubby. It probably suited the prototype HST better than anything else it was applied to though. To me it looked far more incongruous on older stock such as the "Blue Pullman" diesel sets and East Coast Met-Camm Pullmans.

No they are not so what point are you trying to make?

All the ones still in use with EC, GWR and NR have been modified to the HST 3 phase supply and are of course still in daily use, some have been extensively modified as well (Royal Train and some GWR examples).

I would think that the 125 group have got their eyes on at least some of the original coaches when they become available, which they are not at the moment.

So the only option at the moment is ex loco hauled coaches but you are still complaining about it! :roll:

Can I please point out that when the Prototype HST was formed, the coaches used were effectively standard hauled coaches - the only difference being the 36 way jumper connections used for the power cars to talk to each other. They were numbered as hauled coaches and had standard ETS, buffers and standard draw gear so not that much different to what we are using now really.

Prototype coaches would be utterly useless with 41001 as they couldn't be heated etc. HST coaches have 415V 3 phase train supply, whereas 41001 kicks out standard BR ETH. So what's better, the route 125 Group have taken, or waiting for coaches that aren't available that wouldn't work anyway because the spotters are getting their knickers in a twist....

Yes, its a pity! No, its NOT a complaint! Yes, it will upset the purists. Yes, its a pity only one PC was saved...... we could go on..... Still they cant have everything. Im not knocking project miller Im actually one of the contributing supporters. At least they have some coaches! its just a pity the prototype coaches werent available to them but thats no way a criticism.

Any my know-it-all status is from someone who works within the industry. However Im not a know-it-all by definition as I dont know it all, but I will naturally speak out against people who think they know better than me and will defend myself if necessary (thats unless I cant be arsd to lower myself)
