158780 is now out of service temporarily after vandalism, its cab window was smashed on a Crewe-Derby train today, so it was rescued by 153374 and taken back to Eastcroft (ta Brandon for finding out info; ta to me for seeing the unit dragging it afterwards :))

156403 has had its (fairly) new livery attacked with graffiti in the past couple of days. The fact that they didn't finish their work has made it look even worse - someone obviously chased them before they had time to complete it. Seen at Burton Joyce station tonight.

added. EMT did say that when class 43s were going in for VPs they would be done. There were also possible stories that the mk3s might be done too, but why I don't know seeing as they were refurbed around 2005 by Midland Mainline. Whatever they do, I hope they don't go down FGW's road and replace the BR seats with commuter style seats.

back to the days of strange mixed sets! Yes, back a few years ago when you often saw Virgin Trains, MML teal and MML blue/grey in one train!

Which included Yellow and GW Green power cars - did any GNER ones ever get involved to complete the set?

I thought it was only MML (both versions) and Virgin? I remember seeing a photo of the old Great Western livery on the MML too.

Definitely had both of those out - I had a GW one into Picc, and flagged a yellow one. That latter choice may have proved to be a mistake!!

sorry question about project rio did any of the class 170 go to manchester or was it just hst's

Yes at one point a 3 car 170 was used to cover for a HST sets (I expect faliure of a power car or something). Used to be fun seeing those mixed livery sets come in. Not only did the new livery not last that long but the refurbished blue/yellow spots standard class seats and brown/cream first on these Rio sets. Got scattered all over the place after Rio.

had a sneak preview in 'journeys' magazine of the decor in the refurbished class 158s. Unfortunately, they have gone down the road I hope they wouldn't have. The seats look awfully hard and plasticky, and the upholstery I'm in two minds about (it's red with randomly placed orange and blue dots down the centre bit). So I really hope DeltaRail don't do the mk3 refurb programme and rip out the BR seats...
