Hi all, long time lurker, very rare poster!

Just been to the ticket office at Sheffield and tried to buy the following for travel this Friday (5th):

Anytime Day Return routed A via B to C

Off Peak Day Return from B to D

to use for a through journey from A to D via B where obviously tickets would swap over.

The tickets were issued with no problem and after getting the cashier to understand the split tickets (took a few attempts!) I then asked for seat reservations for the through journey (A via B to D). The cashier then said that one reservation for the through journey was not possible, so I asked for separate reservations A to B then B to D. The cashier then gave me those reservations, but was insistent that I had to get a train from A to B, alight at B, then get on the next train from B to D and issued reservations as such.

At this point, having already realised that I probably wasn't going to get any further, thanked the cashier and left with those reservations.

To top it all off, about two months ago I booked the exact same journey and got the through reservation no problems!

Firstly, could anyone just confirm that a seat reservation A to D via B can indeed be issued with split tickets and if so, any advice on a suitable complaint to East Midlands Trains would appreciated. More than happy to give full journey details on here or via PM.

Thanks in advance!

The member of staff is making things up. A through reservation is most definitely possible.

There have been reports on this forum in the past about poor service at Sheffield ticket office.

Indeed. Think yourself lucky that you got any tickets at all !

I have long since stopped bothering to write to EMT. Their replies were cut and paste jobs which completely failed to address the point(s) raised.

If you do complain and receive a proper response from them, I suggest you frame it !

Unfortunately I could probably tell you which member of staff it is. She's tried before to tell me a certain journey I make every fortnight isn't possible with split tickets

Oddly, my experience with them has been very warm and any issues have been quickly solved
