I'm planning on doing a 7 day ALR in June/July and to help lower the cost of it I have multiple travel vouchers I want to use to pay for part of it but some of these expire in March. Is it possible to buy the ALR in March so I can use my travel vouchers for them? If not when's the earliest I can buy the ALR? Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes, it's possible; just go to any ticket office. Note that if your plans change you will have to pay £10 to change the date of, or refund, the ALR.

If I were to use the sleeper how much is an upgrade to a single berth normally cost? Would I also be able to use the sleeper on the last day the ticket is valid to travel over night arriving the morning the ticket isn't valid?

The cost of a berth supplement has gone up considerably - I think it's around £70 now! And no, since Serco took over they've changed the rules so that your Rover has to be valid for both days.

Just had a quick look on Caledonian Sleeper website for June/July and it seems like all the Fort William sleepers are booked up anyway.

They used to have separate quotas for supplements applicable to walk-up inter-available tickets and their own berth-inclusive tickets. Have you looked at both? Have you also looked at seats?

Don't forget the Fort William service is a "normal" train between Edinburgh & Fort William, so you could at least travel on it for that part of the journey.

Just had a quick look on Caledonian Sleeper website for June/July and it seems like all the Fort William sleepers are booked up anyway.

According to the CS website, bookings for services to and from Fort William and Aberdeen between May and December 2016 are currently closed. Seems it is related to the data issue they are having with the booking system.

Highlander services to and from Fort William and Aberdeen (southbound and northbound) are closed for bookings between May and December 2016.

It looks to be about £44 for standard shared berth and £50 for first solo berth but first will require a first class ALR.

That's good. It had jumped from £42 to something like £70 a few months back. Glad to know it's back to a sensible level again.

I believe some TIS have a restriction limiting the sale of ALRs to one week before the commencement date. Not sure if that applies across board so you may have to shop around.

GWR website should be able to do it earlier than this as they have to be posted out rather than TOD.

You wouldn't by any chance know if Virgin at Crewe would have this restriction?
