The problem with stuff like cereal is the mass consumption of food. For years I believed it was the healthy option but after reading the nutritional information they are filled with sugar, even the healthy ones ! So you kick of the day with sugar, sugar in your yoghurts, sugar in your ham sandwich, sugar in fruit, sugar in your orange juice and then an evening meal.

You say "rich food" but offer no alternative. A good solid breakfast is what sets you up and gets you through to lunch. Sometimes a light easy breakfast may lead to snacking.

I went to school which had a full english + cereal + fruit + juice drink on the menu every single day. I don't remember obesity being an issue for children back then. "fat kids" were rare. Now they are the norm. It isn't because of McDonalds.

Cereal is good IF you burn energy by living an active lifestyle. For example, I'm sure the guys who play football consume a lot of food high in carbs since it gives them the strength and stamina they need to compete. It's the same with protein. Protein adds to muscle mass. Calcium (milk) strengthens the bones. However, if a guy sits on his arse all day long and doesn't workout, then those carbs will turn into fat.

Soda and candy are empty carbs since they don't produce muscle mass. I encourage people to have a high carb, high protein, high calcium diet, BUT to avoid burgers, chips, and candy except once a week. They should also participate in sports or workout.

Giving a kid cheese burger and chips for breakfast is just plain wrong,

Why? Sausage McMuffin and Hash Brown is just a different minced up animal with some cheese in a different sort of bread roll, along with a different fried potato product. Very little difference when you think about it.

Utterly bizarre - the whole concept is *you* choose. Though they are all franchises, and some franchise owners are more generous than others :)

Yes indeed. I find that with the great consumer society there's rarely as much choice as they like to make out.

I think that over the years McDonalds has turned around from the greasy days of fast food and "fake egg"

Agreed, although it's still a total pain to get something nice off their breakfast menu if you don't like egg

Alpen Vs Cheeseburger (no its not scientific)

Does that include what it's served with? A bun can add a good number of carbs just like milk can have fat in. It's also worth considering the power (Energy/time) of the food

As for breakfast, 11 or 11:30 would definitely be a far better cut off time. Normally at the moment if I miss the breakfast cut off it just means I go elsewhere rather than eating the day menu as I usually just don't really want a Chicken Legend at 10:45am..

I agree although I think 11:30 is a tad too late. 11am seems standard.

Ah I have quite the opposite problem - when we finish a night shift at 5 McDs is the only place open and the last thing I want is a breakfast after a full shift.
With breakfast foods I find you can eat them any time of the day, but with other stuff I really can't stomach eating them until an hour or two after I've had breakfast. I remember when I used to commute into Bristol and at half 7 in the morning you'd go down into the subway at Temple Meads and most of the train would be covering their mouth because of the strong stench of vegetables from the pasty shop. Quite nauseating at that time of the day!

I don't mind eating breakfast after night shift, it's quite nice actually!

But I agree that the times are often a bit inconvenient; I wouldn't mind a longer serving of breakfast, starting maybe from 4am and finishing at 11. I'm sure a few years ago they extended Sunday breakfast to 11am, but they don't seem to do that anymore.

True, but I've never heard of the idea of a Subway not allowing you to have any of the salads with any product, unless they had simply run out of that salad.

Try "could I have a double sausage and egg McMuffin, but without the egg, please?" :)

Works quite well when I'm not in an eggy mood. Used to take ages to get special orders, but most breakfast stuff is now made to order anyway.

My Mum's favourite used to be ordering cheeseless Big Macs (she can't stand cheese in any form), though we soon worked out that the better way to do it was to both get with cheese and swap bits round to leave me with double cheese instead as I love it :)

I think the current cut-off of 10:30 is fine for a weekday, but they should move to 11:30 or even noon on a weekend. McGrease is a good hangover killer, but not if you have to get up "early" after a night out to get it!

That does happen to some people, but I don't find I do quite so much. I have been known to have evening meal type stuff for breakfast if I've been out of milk, for example. Last time I did it it was beef chilli. Yum.

It was a generic side of the packet comparison. When you stick them side by side its quite shocking how close the numbers can be

Not sure I'm having Alpen with a bun but that is also part of the point. I could be at home munching a big bowl of Cereal followed with OJ, Cup of Coffee, Slice of toast and jam...

McDonalds being "unhealthy" is overstating and totally missing the issues at hand.

And, indeed, you could have a Big Mac without fries. The Big Mac is just a beef and cheese sandwich with flavoured mayonnaise on it, no worse than any other beef and cheese sandwich with mayonnaise of whatever kind (McD's burgers are not very fatty/greasy - indeed they are quite dry if you don't have the sauce). It's when you add greasy fries to it that it gets bad.

No way, it's my favourite breakfast. I like the pancakes and sausage too :(

I used to go for breakfast (with Jason Priestley's future wife among others!) in the McD's in the Galleria about then when I was at art college over the road, but on weekdays so I wouldn't have seen you. Ah, memories :D

Did you know there is a Wetherspoon's in Hatfield now, near the Aldi!
