The rebrand seems like a lot of money for a relatively short time, especially for the HSTs. The first class 800 is due into service in June 2017 and within a year or so many of the HSTs will have been replaced. Haven't seen much progress so far mind...

According to the franchise stakeholder brief or some other document they aren't rebranding any stock that leaves the franchise during the period up to the end of the direct award. There shouldn't really be any more HSTs done at all.

Rail magazine also stated this sometime back in the autumn, and of course last but not least, whole sets of coaches have come back from overhaul in 'First blue' without the dynamic lines since the green set first appeared.

Lets hope that a few Powercars end up in British Rail liveries or even some odd ones. Lets be honest. I think First could come up with a different livery for every powercar if they tried with everything they've done since the 1990s!

They have since regained the Dynamic Lines in common with the rest of the fleet. Incidentally, I gather there may be more change afoot as the new green interior isn't wearing as well as the blue ones in the Turbos.

Well there's a surprise. Think the green interior is flat-cloth type whereas the blue is moquette. Moquette is hard wearing and longer lasting. How many more times do the TOCs need to re-learn this?

So we could have,

A pair of BR Flying bananas.

A pair in IC Executive

A pair in IC Swallow

A pair in GWT Merlin

A pair in FGW Fag Packet

A pair in FGW Barbie White

A pair in FGW Barbie Blue

A pair in FGW Dynamic Lines

A pair in gWr green.

Maybe a Hornby.

So that's 18 out of a fleet of 119, and that is pairing them up.

I very much doubt they will want to use any liveries from other TOCs (even former TOCs), so we won't see any in MML (either livery), VT original, EC, gNEr, NEEC and we definitely won't see VTEC, XC or EMT.

But, the likelihood is that cost will be a factor, so expect

1 x BR flying banana

1 x FGW Barbie Blue (if they have vinyls - if not forget it)

1 pair of gWr green

many FGW dynamic lines.

Put the whole franchise to IC swallow or exec :D

I had a fear that the flat cloth was an indication of what the IEP fleet may be set up with. It isn't great compared with the blue moquette.

Please no. Some things are best forgotten...
I didn't like it at the time, but each successive livery that FGW have applied up to and including dynamic lines has made the previous one look better by comparison (IMO)...

At least the new GWR green is a bit of an improvement as it hasn't proved to be as drab as I at first feared and references the heritage of the route.

Well given the use 4 or 5 car HST's seems now to be under consideration as an alternative to some Turbo Units which wont be cascaded from the Thames Valley any time soon, the departure of some HST's may not be so quick.

The departure of any 2+4 HSTs will be bloody quick I would imagine!

Word is that the interior of the green goddess is staining badly, so I would anticipate a change on IEP and any further refurbs.

I've not seen anything official about this, but it's true that it's not holding up well. I remember being really impressed by it on launch week, but 5 months on and the green carpets don't like so clean, and that grey seat fabric shows everything.

Wouldn't be so bad had a different fabric been chosen, something harder wearing, like the ATW grey.

150232 was working with 153369 on the 10:38 Westbury (Ex-Weymouth) to Bristol Temple Meads today (28/01). First time seeing the exterior close up. The refurbished interior is blue and pink however.

I don't understand why it hasn't received a green/new interior colour. Considering 150/2s are expected to remain with GWR for the foreseeable future, it seems odd that it's come back in the colours First are starting to phase out.

I suspect that the interior has simply been modified to receive the new DDA-compliant toilet, rather than fully refurbished.

There are also some problems with the new style interiors where fitted, which has seen the grey cloth trim marking and staining rather badly, so it may well be that the design as it is will be altered.

I find it quite amazing that a major refurbishment programme has gone ahead apparently without some basic testing and evaluation of materials regarding durability, dirt-resistance, etc.

Does anyone know precisely how many trains, of whatever type, have actually got new interiors in standard class at the moment?

It can't be that many, just one HST and some of the 166s, so perhaps they have actually been trying out the materials in the real world before committing to a full rollout of the new look.

It is indeed the HST Set and the 2/3 Turbos which does have the green interior at the moment. None of the West Fleet has received the new look interior yet, while one of the ex LM 153 twins has had their seat covers replaced with the standard Dynamic Lines - 325 has FGW Carpet and LM covers.

Incidentally I was on the Delayed "Green Goddess" tonight, which had an electrical fault causing coach C to be out of use. From what I did see though, it's interior is wearing rather badly compared to the smarter Dynamic Lines with the carpet looking tired around the edges, more noticeable knocks on the paintwork and staining on a lot of the seats. The grey covering isn't the best material compared to moquette - it feels cheaper and isn't fairing too well in daily use, certainly in appearance!

Edit - I've just had 150219 this evening, can't say I'm that impressed with the new lav design not the rather muffled PA system - she seemed to have trouble announcing a few stops clearly including Starcross which comes out as something odd!

Any more news on when or if a repaint is due for a HST power car into a "retro" livery? 43002 was mentioned but is showing as in service at the moment presumably still in blue.

Just to clear this up a bit - the original rumour started as a result of a Q&A piece in the company newsletter. While the original question specifies a relivery of 43002 into original blue/grey, the answer goes on to suggest discussions (and only discussions at this stage) were taking place to relivery a HST (it doesn't specify whole set or just powercar) into a retro livery.

As such I'd summise discussions are still ongoing as to what, if anything, is done to mark the 40th anniversary of the HST. All I can say for certain at this stage is that management are keen for something to be done.

Re the HST retro repaint, 43002 falls due for a major exam so,will be out of service so won't be repainted, messroom rumour is 4309(something) is the likely candidate IF it goes ahead.

I presume 232 Has also had the new PA system, door buttons & sounders as per the DDA modified 219?

As an aside to my post above, I did notice that the flooring in 219 had been replaced, not with standard FGW treadmaster - I'm not sure if that's just what was in stock at the time or as ultimately part of the rebrand.

I think the next 150 to be released from any of the works will be the real test - will it come back with a GWR or FGW interior, and with or without DDA loo - I'm thinking of currently at Doncaster 150001 for that one.
