Hi all,

As Steve left it on a cliff-hanger as to where the Class 67 will be hosted, it gives me great pleasure to announce the release of the train at BVE Routes & Trains. The train is brand new, and features high quality sounds and a super-large animated cab.

For those who haven’t read this thread http://www.trainsimcentral.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3240, there are four versions of the loco:

- Light engine
- Railtour (67 + 10 Mk1s + 67)
- Wrexham & Shropshire service (67 + 3 Mk3s + 67)
- RES Parcels (67 + 6 Vans)

Hopefully these different versions will give the TSC team more diagram possibilities if they decide to use the train in the next release of NWM! :)

Massive thanks to Steve Thomas who has put huge amounts of effort into this one. Head over to www.bveroutes-trains.co.uk and follow the links for more details!

On behalf of Steve, and BRT, enjoy!

Not a lot to do really. Rain drops need configuring, but the tool provided by the plug-in maker is offline, so I'm a bit stuck! Sounds are nearly there, the engine sounds need to be louder.

The sounds for the 67 are good, IMO. They aren't all recorded from a 67, but the train is a good representation of the real thing.
Mr. Loader, considering you have never made anything for BVE, I wouldn't criticize others' work...

I must say, although it isn't too bad, the sounds are really not very good, just being re-edits of the edits of 66 sounds used on the 59 by the looks of things. Also you cant scroll up the cab to see the top of the TPWS Interface, and they are slow damned slow, compared to real life. Pulling away with reasonable power and then full as it gets going, your still going 20mph minutes later..

Lets just hope these raindrops are 'configured' correctly and that the 57 cab isn't drawn again, and the sounds aren't from the 47 and GM's...

I'm still allowed an opinion if I have made anything or not.

The 57 uses sounds recorded from Class 57s, as well as a few from Martin's 56, and a few from the 47. A 57 is a pimped 47 at end of the day, so some run and track sounds are taken from the Duff.

The raindrops will be 'configured' to the very highest standard, so not to upset you FusionRail...

The 67 looks pretty good. I too felt that the sounds weren't exact, but acceptable.

I don't remember the power being that slow on the real loco! I was in notch 5 with the amps way up in the red and still crawling. There didn't appear to be a burst of power until 40-45mph was reached, then it really got going. That felt like a was a long time still below 40mph.

Just press the 'P' key to reduce the Cab graphic size and 'O' to increase it. The image looked exactly as shown in the photograph on the download page.

The brakes will take a little getting used to. So far it's been all or nothing. I need to practice a bit allowing for the 10 MK1's behind.

The train is also very heavy on processing power. It hardly went over 6fps over the whole route from Maybank to Hammerwich. I usually get up to double figures enroute, with 5-7 fps at the more dense areas.

However, it is a good train (loco) and congratulations on the work involved.

So it's not just me that it's slow then...

Although I by the time mine has loaded, i get sick of how slow it is and just exited it :(

I only tried the railtour version but is it slow on every one of the four versions?

Yep, its just not 'configured' properly I should imagine.

To be honest, a realistic simulation, shouldnt involve sounds from a completely different loco.

There is practically nothing essentially mechanically similar on a 47 to a 57 (except body, wheels and bogie's etc), or a 56 to a 57. So why use sounds from one of them?

A 57 is not a 'pimped' version of a 47, so let me explain why.

A 47/0 has 6 Brush TM64-68 traction motors, a 57/3 having 6 TM68-46 traction motors, the 47 a Sulzer 12LDA28C, the 57 a Genetically Modified 645-12F3B and also weighing in at 6-10 tons heavier, which will affect track sounds as well.

If somethings going to be made as a realistic simulation, it needs to be done properly. Not bodged together from random locomotives other people have made.

No doubt these 'configured' raindrops will be copied from say, a 141 in Iran.

Is the 57/3 hand drawn also?

The WSMR Set seems to be alright, but I do agree the acceleration is a bit dodgy...

...and the sounds still a bit iffy.

Its what you get when not the proper sounds are used. But of course I've never made a train for BVE so I can't comment.

The Railtour version has been re-released. The new download rectifies the problem with the Train.dat in the initial release.

How do you get the 67 to work on a route without a designated class 67 activity?

I would like to use it on my Network West Midlands Route, but I dont know how. So far, I have found no routes that use this loco...

BVE route randomiser

Brilliant, thanks very much mate.

Right, I have downloaded Route Randomizer. How does it work?

Do I just start BVE as normal, or is there some sort of program I need to enter first, to select the train?

You'll find, if you read the website, the 57/3 and 67 are by two different authors. I'm making the 57/3, and it will feature 57 sounds. Some are taken from other locomotives because the sounds are pretty similar. Run sounds won't differ too much between a 47 and 57/3, apart from the added weight making the noise slight 'harder/heavier'.

Why don't you try and get yourself into a Class 57/3 cab whilst it's working a train to record some sounds...not the easiest job. The cab is photographic, so don’t worry you're little head my friend.

If you don't like the train, don't use it. You are perfectly welcome to criticise and help the team improve the trains, but don't do it in a way which could offend developers. You'll only **** them off and they’ll stop developing, then you'll be in the **** won't you...

Right in that case here is my views that should be taken into account...
  • - Stop drawing cabs - The only way they are going to be able to be represented realistically is by photo only. I was disappointed at the 168's/171 .. which leads onto my next point.

  • - Real sounds make real trains - 168's sound nothing like a 170, they have a deeper groan by far and and also many others different. Plus, like the 67, if you wish to cut shortcuts with shoving 66 sounds in there, that's fine, but remember the train will always be perceived by the community as a 'Fiddle' from another.

Put the two together and you have the recipe for a disaster of a BVE Train...

Happy Now?

And on personal opinion...My favorite trains made so far are the Voyager and BVE Networks 170. Maybe you could learn something from why we like these?

I think Adam has a point, the 67 may not be perfect in ways (there may or may not be updates in the future), but what we have is sufficient enough and we should all enjoy it....I know i am!

With the greatest of respect, FusionRail, maybe you should try configuring some wipers ansd see how difficult it is, or can your brain not cope with something so technical?

I can take the **** too you know...

Just to get this straight, these aren't my trains. They're Steve Thomas' - I'm merely the host. ;)

I agree that trains would be better with a proper sound set all recorded from the real thing, but people should appreciate that this isn't always possible. At the end of the day, we don't all have connections with drivers who are willing to let us record in their cabs. The likes of Martin Corbett do, as he is a driver on all the locos he has made. Zane Saxton was a Conductor on the units he has made. John Owen was a Conductor for GNER so could record in-cab sounds easily. The list goes on.

I shall upload a large 57/3 cab-shot later tonight to show you how it ISN'T hand drawn. Infact, none of the trains I have ever produced have been hand-drawn (apart from my earlier ones which I no longer host). I will also try to do a sound clip, which you can comment on, and if you want, help me improve it. :)

You should find a shortcut on your desktop (or in the Start Menu) which looks like a semaphore signal. Open that up and choose your route and train, and off you go.
