Hi all

Applied for a job with southern rail few months back they take for ever to get back to you, i have emailed time and time again to no avail, I had passed their assessment last year and they promised to contact me when Victoria position comes available again, it has now and i reapplied but have not heard a dickie bird.

Has anyone got their HR/recruitment number please at least i can talk to someone and get an explanation.

Many thanks

You sound a little desperate and that may be why you're not getting anywhere.

Tip: Railway management do not rush. Ever.

I have 3 applications in, ranging from August-December last year and no reply either way as yet, I called last week and all they say is it's an ongoing recruitment program and they WILL get back at some point but can't say when. Number is 0208 929 8600, but don't tell anyone I told you!! LOL;)

Cool your heals. It took me 21 months to pass the paper sift with Southern. They have hundreds of applicants for each position. If you haven't heard from them they might not have even looked at your application yet. They will work through batches as and when they need to to fill assessment centre places.

21 months? Wowzers!

If Southern don't respond to me before 2019, I'm officially going to start panicking. No.. seriously, provided they are true to their word and will eventually ring, I'm willing to be patient as per railway recruitment standards!

My mate applied to Southern 14 months ago it's still ongoing he passed the sift they then put him in a talent pool then 2 months ago they said come in for the assessments he is still waiting for that date ,radio silence is being maintained at the moment. Two things you need to know about the railway firstly it takes for ever to get anything done I waited a year for a pair of trousers one secondly there is a fine line between being keen or comings across as desperate , they don't like desperate and they don't like being badgered there is only a small team of people in the HR department and if you keep annoying poor old Alice or or Bob one day when they get to your application it will hit the bin I know people in recruitment who's lunch break was interupted by a bloke who had called every week since he applied guess what he didn't make it past the waste paper basket. Good luck keep cool and just sit on your hands and wait.

One thing I would advise when you are going for jobs on the railway is to look at any press that they may be getting - especially if it is one who is being hammered by all sides for its performance and then think about what the people who are making a decision on your employment may actually be doing instead of it.

I am not desperate to start with, I need to make decisions about other jobs.

I have applied with many others like LUL, network rail, south eastern and got a reply and assessment appointment within a month at the most, just southern taking years.

I am not bothered now, I will go with I have got now and make them wait lol

Thanks for your inputs guys

Clearly you are bothered.

The problem with applying for numerous positions is that this exact situation will occur. There will come a point where you need to decide who, where and what you wish.

If you wish to make them wait then I'm afraid your very much mistaken if you believe they will actually care.

Too true they don't give a damn they get so many applications that they can pick and choose who they want . I think you will find it very hard to get a train driving job as the sheer volume alone means the odds are stacked against you you need to be selective do your home work on the TOC and when the chance comes be ready and on your game .
