Out again Tuesday Att (strengthening) 07 30 Cardiff to Portsmouth Hbr (To Bristol-then booked to PM) Out later and failed Trowbridge as strengthening unit on 16 40 Gloucester to Weymouth (To Westbury). Failed Wednesday on 08 46 Weston-super-Mare to Cardiff (off at Bristol)

Has the next 150/2 left Bristol for Wolverton?

The 150s don't seem to agree with the refurbishment 150238 has probably been the best of all three. I remember 150219 being bad when it first came back. The first time I was meant to use it, it broke down in the platform at Temple Meads! The last time I was on it one of the doors wasn't shutting properly - I haven't seen it for a few weeks though.

I've noticed it doesn't work very well with local door only stops too.

ATW's PIS on their 158s does a really good job IMO. On the Cambrian Coast, say, once you leave Barmouth, it says something along the lines of 'The next station is Harlech. If you require Llanaber, Talybont, Dyffryn Ardudwy, Llanbedr, Pensarn or Llandanwg, please ensure you tell the conductor.'

The guard then makes a manual announcement as the train approaches a request stop its due to stop at, and which part of the train passengers should alight from (if necessary).

I think that would work well on the Tarka Line... 'The next station will be Eggesford. If you require Yeoford, Copplestone, Morchard Road or Lapford please ensure you tell the conductor'.

I think it probably would, sad to say. They may well try and keep the livery as accessible as possible without overcompromising e.g. have the grey strip on a Blue/grey coach rake end just before the doors, so each door is completely blue. That may of course be flouting regs, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Nope. Allegedly the system works on door cycles, so it knows where it is by how many times the doors are released. This means it is unable to cope with the issue of request stops, because of course the doors may not be opened at all. If they are opened, I know not whether the system will register just a local door being operated or if it requires a full normal door release to identify that it has stopped.

Conversely, a bloke picking up the PA handset and speaking into appears to cope equally well with both request and regular station calls, and even has a clever feature whereby it will know if a station call is added or omitted from the calling schedule. It's pretty clever stuff actually...

Chiltern have a blue-grey set of MK3's for the Banbury set so I don't see why it can't be done with an HST.

In 2012, First Great Western returned former prototype mark 3 vehicle 42353 to the original BR Pullman reverse blue & grey livery it wore when delivered as 12002. This was as part of the York "Railfest" that year, but I believe that it also worked in passenger service with FGW for a short while.

As such, and combined with the Chiltern slam-door set displaying BR blue-grey livery, I think that historical precedent must have some bearing here.
