I note RTT has a 390 doing two round trips from Polmadie to Edinburgh each day.
;
apologies if already discussed but does anyone know why?
'
I know 390154 was dragged via GSW, but by my reckoning three should have been trapped on 31st, plus any on maintenance.

You'll see that there's a corresponding ECS move from/to Glasgow as well. So it looks like it's sent to Edinburgh to get it out of the way for a bit before it goes to bed for the night.

I've seen one sitting at the Depot outside Glasgow ever since I disruption started, and I saw one in the platform at Glasgow Central a while ago (before the temp timetable via Kilmarnock was in place), and I saw one on the move earlier today

On the plus side, this time could be used for a proper deep-clean any minor maintenance that may be needed

How about running it as a shuttle between Glasgow and Edinburgh to ferry people en-route to London?

Probably not the paths tbh, are they even cleared for that route? And then the drivers would need route-training as well

Must be paths betwen Glasgow an Edinburgh via Carstairs because no traffic is coming from the southern end of the Carstairs triangle and thats one London to Glasgow service hourly. One Birmingham to Glasgow / Edinburgh service hourly and One Manchester to Glasgow / Edinburgh hourly plus freight.

But it would require a recast of the timetable because the Carstairs-Edinburgh half of the path wouldn't line up to the Carstairs-Glasgow half.

Yes it would but it is not entirely out of the question is it?

No, it isn't. It probably wouldn't be worth it for a four-week closure, but it might be if that closure were to be extended out to eight or twelve weeks...

Perhaps they should run Glasgow-Carstairs-Edinburgh-KGX? :lol:
I know this has come up before - are 390's cleared to run down the ECML and into Kings Cross in passenger service (I know there's been at least one trial run)? This is ignoring the fact that they would be speed limited so there are no paths.

When I saw the topic headline I was hoping it meant all of them, for good. So disappointed to see it's not!!
If we had more electrified track we'd take them to replace 170s (not 158's of course!)
