London terminus stations

I'm thinking of doing a visit to some of the London terminus stations. As the vast majority now have ticket barriers does anyone know if they allow you to watch trains on the platforms or do you now have to buy a ticket to the nearest station etc.

As you are going to be travelling around London anyway, probably best to just buy a paper one day travelcard then you can go where you like.

In short you'll probably be allowed onto the platform but let someone know what you're up to.

Years ago when most of the stations were open and i'll use Kings Cross as an example you could walk down to the end and look at the trains. I now believe that is now platform 0 and they all have barriers. So unless I have a ticket to the next station or a journey elsewhere from that station I'm not going to get through the barriers. I just wondered if anyone had asked if they could go on to the platforms to watch trains and not travel and what kind of response they had got.

Kings Cross has barriers... Although the times I've seen the main barriers for 0-8 being closed I can count on one hand.

The barriers on the 9-11 GN side are normally closed

Less than that for me, I've never seen the 0-8 barriers in use. I had wondered whether they were faulty?

You could just always make yourself known to the gateline staff or the station reception, say you're an enthusiast and you want to watch the trains and ask if you can be let through. You might have to sign in or something, but it can't hurt you to ask and it's cheaper than buying a ticket you won't be using.
