Just digressing, did anyone see the ITV prog Train V weather on Monday ( or was it yesterday?) however i didnt realise that the Class 37 was 17,500 hp machine Yes thats seventeen thousand five hundred HP. They kept that quite, apart from that very good view of the problems trackmen have to face, and the utter banality of some of the travelling public
You are a power of 10 out with your power! They are only 1,750hp. 17,500 hp would probably blow a few things up!
There was a shot of a high viaduct in today's (Wednesday) programme.
Was that in Manchester?
Looked a bit like Stockport to my untrained eye.
Did anyone else spot the ScotRail 158 sneaking in to the mostly Northern Rail footage a few times last night?![]()
Portillo pink, apparently..
Quite amusing when he did his piece to camera on that crowded 150(?) to Salford, seeing the looks on the faces behind him![]()

Yes, I think so - certainly not Knutsford, and preceded by aerial shots of St. Helens! In the previous programme there was a glimpse of him boarding a 158 at Preston to go to Blackburn (immediately before a shot of a 150 pulling away from a different platform!), and he then did a piece to camera on board the 158. Perhaps they shot the Knutsford/Tatton sequence before going to Preston, then added the concluding piece to camera as an afterthought. At the end of tonight's program when he was doing a piece to camera with a 158 rolling in, was that Preston (looked like it had overhead wiring)?
It was definitely a 150, one of the ones FNW refurbished around 15 years ago. I wonder why there was no-one on the middle seat next to him despite the standees near the doors.

Because nobody likes a middle seat. Unless Northern passengers are a bit more sociable than those in the Sarfeast!![]()

Tomorrow he will apparently start from Ashley, so helicoptered back to the Mid-Cheshire from Preston - the editing could be better!

I will only watch if the last scene is him trying to read his Bradshaws as a piece to camera on Nemesis!
Or thinner![]()
Ah, but then they would have lost the excuse for the shots of Ashley station, with the trains in opposite directions passing each other.I thoroughly enjoy Portillo's programme, although I also rather enjoy (and am intrigued by) the editing process, especially when the episode involves a familiar area.
In the instance of last night's episode, Michael arrived at Ashley and describes it as a leafy commuter village, and covers a piece about chimney-sweeping (and the demand for domestic service in the local suburban villas).
However, Michael didn't actually stay in Ashley as he then went straight to Hale to meet a local chimney-sweep, and from there they went to sweep the chimney of a house on The Downs, Altrincham.
Maybe the episode should've been titled Altrincham to Alton(?). Or even Hale to Alton.
