If you look at the Local Lines units, it has the door controls but as you'll know the door is as part of the livery. 150202/216 / 001/002 arrived with their cab doors painted in plain Blue too. Only since the very recent repaints / DDA modded units have come back, the cab vestuble doors have been painted Pink or Silver as per this. Incidentally, Central Trains did the same with their 150/2 vehicles as well, probably as a result of the /2s being switched in and out of their faux /0 series units.

The door controls have always been there. When the Driver's desk is active, the buttons at that end are isolated and the doors can't be opened from outside. There is the option of manually locking the vestibule door into the saloon, using a BR1 key, though few Drivers use the facility. At the rear of the unit/all other cab vestibules when in multiple, the door buttons operate as normal from both sides. Most crew would prefer the doors were completely non-passenger, but it isn't generally a major issue except if a train is rammed; in which case the chances are the Guard would operate from the rear vestibule and simply prevent boarding at that door anyhow.
I agree that the livery is dull and not overly inspiring.

I am keeping a look out for it being allocated out, it depends what shift I am working for when I can have a look!
Same with me - I look most days to see if it is out and about. I just wondered if anyone had any "inside information".

Must've been there for a heavy interior overhaul. Unfortunately, we weren't permitted a look inside, though I did notice a 'Part of Arriva-a [DB] company' (do excuse my terrible attempt at the DB logo with square brackets)

Yeah it's likely there for the overhaul work - in the 2014/15 annual report it was stated the 165s will be receiving a heavy overhaul from 2016. Looking forward to seeing that as well as when 150001 emerges

165036 is having a C6 overhaul and being fitted with a compliant, accessible toilet. I believe the external passenger doors are also being modified so they close automatically after a minute or so, much like the doors on the 168s and other units already do.

Why are the crew doors painted a contrasting colour, though? The whole point of the contrasting coloured doors is to assist visually-impaired people find the doors. Painting crew doors the same as the other doors just causes confusion. Unless there are blind train crew working them?

Because they are passenger doors when not at the driver's end of the train.

This. 150/1 crew doors are manually operated inward-opening swing/slam doors and are not available for passenger use (other than if a guard lets one or two stragglers on before giving the right-away). Hence they are not painted in contrasting colours. The sliding doors on the /2s are permitted for public use away from the leading cab and have buttons to allow this so are painted the same as the main passenger doors. In theory this could cause confusion for partially sighted passengers if they attempt to board at the leading end but as these doors are significantly narrower than main doors, people will tend to congregate towards the main doors anyway.

From what I could find out this morning, this run did not take place yesterday due to "issues" with 150232.
On Class 317s, which have essentially the same cab layout, they're not used like this.

Sorry to be "that guy", but any chance you could possibly spell out stations, particularly the first time you use them? I assume one of your odd vowel-less contractions is for 'Highbridge' (although I didn't think trains terminated there), but can't work out the other - I did initially think 'Staplehurst', but as that's in Kent I doubt it is!

Last year I used those doors in the centre of a 317/8 set. They still have the original black rubber buttons with no light, so it isn't obvious that those doors can be used. I only noticed because the sliding door next to the saloon was open.
On SWT 455s all door buttons for the small doors have been removed and the internal doors are locked shut.

Northern's way is clearer, but as it has simply been stuck onto an existing livery it doesn't look quite so neat.
The GWR logo makes the matt "slash" look a bit less out-of-place, certainly. It looked very odd on the 57 when first unveiled, though I may have only seen pictures of it in an incomplete state.
