I got the Video 125 DEV Eurostar into Waterloo and it made me think of several things:

Southleet Junction to Fawkham junction: How often is it used now since the lines redundancy?

Vauxhall/Wandworth flyover: will it ever be used again?

The class 373: since the transfer of services into St Pancras Int, do the trains have the Network rail equipment and the 3rd rail stuff? also do the new trains have them?

Do you think the Eurostar will ever return to Waterloo?

Could the disused sections of track be used for Southeastern High Speed diversions?

Southfleet has been used by Javelins but mostly on Charters run by them. However Eurostars will not return to Waterloo as the 3rd Rail equipment has been removed. The Vauxhall flyover has been used for the occasional charter in recent months otherwise it is disused now.

As far as I'm aware 3rd rail equipment has been removed from the entire fleet?

Waterloo International and the Vauxhall flyover do seem a waste of money, I think the original plan was to still run some Eurostars to Waterloo when St Pancras opened but for whatever reason it didn't happen.

The plan is that the former Waterloo International will effectively become the Windsor Line platforms after a rebuild of the concourse at that end of Waterloo. I was told the plans are to effectively drop the concourse to street level, with escalators up to platforms 20-24 and the "main" concourse.

Ideally the Battersea flyover would be demolished and you could then have the Windsor lines four track all the way from International Junction to Barnes.

Demolishing the Viaduct will be hugely expensive and require full blockade of Waterloo

That would be quite unlikely to happen. If 8 tracks were to become available throughout between Waterloo and Clapham Junction NR's long stated preference would be for a 3+3+2 layout, to give the main fasts a reversible 'fifth track'.

The problem is that the overall capacity requirement isn't balanced neatly into 50/50 Windsors and Mains.

How about a Javelin service to Waterloo? That would give good connections for those travelling onto SWT etc

Would they be any better than travelling via Waterloo East? I think not, and there'd be no capacity via the Southeastern routes anyway - that's basically why they never ended up with any diversions into Waterloo to cope with the London Bridge Thameslink works.

At the moment those Victoria - Orpington trains run every 15 mins. If they ran instead every 20 mins that would open an hourly slot for that train via Brixton?

No it wouldn't because 20 minute frequency is on the wrong part of the clockface twice an hour.

It could probably be done gradually in overnight possessions, whether it should be demolished is another matter though

A 20min service wouldn't fit in with other services, the service shouldn't be reduced anyway;)

There's no real prospects of it being used again for regular services, however 8 tracks aren't needed between Waterloo and Clapham Junction just yet (I believe such a decision is somewhat dependent upon the final details of Crossrail 2). Hence there's no need to demolish Linford Street - Nine Elms flyover just yet.

I can guarantee that as soon as they demolish that flyover, they will find a real and ongoing need for it less than a week later.

The flyover was (part?) paid for with a European grant so can't be demolished before a certain date without having to repay the grant...

Only the ramp part would need to be demolished to get the extra track through so would only need Windsor side blockades.
