Darlington area trip

This coming week I will have a few hours to kill in the Darlington area (Scotch Corner in actual fact). With the weather as you would expect likely to be bad, I was wondering if there was anywhere along that stretch of the ECML where you can park up and watch the trains without having to get out of the car?

I am happy to travel a little way, but have to be back at Scotch Corner a few hours later. Any help would be appreciated.

Will let others comment on spotting, but an alternative if you've never been is the Shildon branch of the National Railway Museum - it's free and inside. About 20 mins drive from Scotch Corner

Just had a quick look on Google Maps and saw this:

It's about 8 Miles(10 mins) from Scotch Corner, It not a location I'm familiar with, maybe someone from Darlington might be better placed to advise on the suitability, but it looks like a place where you wouldn't need to get out of the car if the weather was a bit unpleasant.

It's quite a scenic drive up the old roman road (B6275) from Barton too

that area has changed a bit since my spotting days 35 years ago move away 20 years ago but the local estate use to be a bit rough

I would say Snipe Lane/Black Banks is about your best bet although it isn't quite the same sine they put the pallisade up ( see google line above)

Skerne Park - had a reputation but it wasn't that bad. Its on the other side of the bypass from Snipe lane and there has never been any issues whenever I went down there
