LOROL - Any feedback?

Anyone heard anything back from LOROL following their ad for trainee's at Willesden? What stage are they at?

The silence is deafening,but they did say in the email it could be between 3 weeks to 4 months and it only closed a couple of days ago.

Congratulations! If you don't mind me asking, how far away do you live from the depot? Does the 40 minute rule apply?

Bit of a shock really. I was like many here expecting a long wait before any response. And if I'm honest I wasn't expecting a positive response. This is only the first bit so I'm not getting my hopes up.

I would be at the extreme end of 40 minutes. However I know that people who work for LOROL as drivers live near me. Obviously that's no secret on the application form. So I presume I'd get binned from the outset if they were not happy with it. I'm not some spring chicken that can move house - so if they said that, I'd have to throw in the towel.

So if I've read it correctly - it's 4 tests on the 1st assessment day. But lorol send you everything in email invite in case you pass and make it to the 2nd assessment. Will update on here after Wednesday as to how I get on.

So just got out of my Day 1 assessment with LOROL.

That was fun. Firstly....get there as per the instructions....30 mins before the start time. Isn't a secret. Was in the email.

Secondly - have the right documents with you? One bloke was chucked out for not having correct ID.

Thirdly - if you've already done the tests with another TOC - have the dates to hand and which ones you did. Amazed me that people didn't have a record.

This was my first time at doing any of it (I dipped MTR at the SJT).

Bourdon - time seemed to fly. Just a blur of dots in the end!
Tea occ - a bit better. But still a challenge.
DFFT - didn't finish that. Again the time goes so quick.
SJT - who knows? Always found those a weird test.

No results until at least 1st week of January now. So will try and forget about it. Was certainly an experience. The chap from the OPC was pleasant & helpful. Shall let you know how I get on.

Wondering with someone can help me...I am confused a little.

In Feb I attended the driver assessment for Southeastern and I failed the Tea Occ element (counting the beeps).

So today, I attended my second go at the driver assessment with Lorol. I took all the tests again, as the Bourdon pass mark didn't meet Lorol's standard. I also took 2 LOROL tests. So, if supposing I was the Bourdon and the Tea Occ tests (these tests are the National standard) with Lorol but fail on LOROL's tests, will I still be able to apply for future trainee driver jobs with other TOCs?

I don't think the tests are impossible. (From what I've seen so far)
But what is reiterated is speed and accuracy. And I can see why. You do really have to concentrate. We shall see if I've done enough. I really have no idea if I have or not.

What happens during the recruitment process?

1. Initial application shortlisting

Firstly we will check if you live within the specified time from the depot
We will then check your previous train driver assessment history. If you have failed any assessment twice or within the last 6 months, you will not be eligible for shortlisting.

2. Assessments and Interview

We currently work to a four stage recruitment process:

You will undergo a variety of assessments based on the following competency areas:

Attention
Vigilance
Memory
Reasoning
Perception
Reaction time
Hand co-ordination

We will send out practice materials of these assessments in advance of you having to take the assessment. You are required to pass all assessments.

Stage 1 assessments

You will need to pass all 4 assessments in order to progress to Stage 2:

Group Bourdon
Driver Fault Finding Test
Test of Everyday Attention for Occupational Assessment
Bespoke LOROL Situational Judgement Test

Stage 2 assessments

You will need to pass 10 assessments in order to progress to Stage 3 some of which include:

Trainability for Rules and Procedures Part 1 (TRP1)
Trainability for Rules and Procedures Part 2 (TRP2)
WAFV
ATAVT
2HAND
Bespoke LOROL Visual Search Exercise (VSE)
Situational Judgement Exercise / Multi Modal Interview (SJE/MMI)

Stage 3

You will complete a personality assessment and be invited to attend an interview with the Line Manager. This is a competency based interview that explores your suitability for the role of a train driver.

Stage 4

You need to pass all these checks in order to be successful in obtaining the role:

Undergo a train driver medical including ECG
Criminal record check
Employment reference verification
Immigration checks

Sorry to hear that apples, I passed thankfully, invite to stage 2 on the 26th Jan. However was the one who had to choose between MTR and lorol and am leaning towards going with MTR.

Yh test on the 12th, waited for the results before deciding as would of been awkward if I withdrew from lorol if I failed in the first place.

Good luck with MTR. I assume that you have told LOROL you have withdrawn.

So not to take the thread on a tangent. It may be worth updating your original post. What pushed your choice to MTR ? It may be helpful to others as they may also be in the same boat.

The pay can and commute were about the same so I went with MTR as I feel its a new exiting project to be a part of.

That's exactly why I would have chosen MTR. Commute is my biggest concern but I think that the opportunities it offers would outweigh it in this instance. Pay is usually the last on my list.

I got an email this morning advising they wouldn't be progressing my application. This was the first communication from them since applying in October so I wasn't really surprised given the assessments are already ongoing.

Yes I'm wondering given they said I failed on Group Bourdon. I'm not sure if that means I met the standard in the Tea occ & the 2 Lorol specific ones or not. Obviously like you I'm concerned about losing a life. I think I'm more irritated because I thought the Group Bourdon is what I did ok on! Clearly I didn't. Oh well. I shall update on here what the OPC say.
