ON certain dates from January passenger trains appear in the pdf WTT and RTT as calling at the parcels platform - looks as though P3 and P4 are either shut or restriced use for around a month each.

It's certainly been used before when the roof has been damaged e.g. by high winds. Usually ends up numbered platform 7, which is a bit confusing as it's next to 1, perhaps 0 would be better.

Platforms are being resurfaced as far as I remember.

I was just looking across at the Res island on Monday, thinking how this could make a much nicer interchange than the P1/2 slum.
There's no bridge connection though, so the subway must provide access somehow.

Wasn't the platform used in 2012 for additional trains for the British Open Golf Championshipd at Lytham St. Annes.

Yes it was. Trains ran to Ansdell and Fairhaven from the northern end of the platform. Lots of temporary lighting was installed along with crowd control barriers.
