Sorry cant ask, I have escaped the sudden leaf fall on the Uckfield Line and am in Manchester instead.

I did email ages ago asking why they cant go out and relieve shortages - no response.

They are hired for Uckfield lengthening hence Uckfield seeing the benefits.

First units will enter service mid 2016.

There should be some transfers this week between the depots.

Between depots do you mean they are off back to stew lane?

ANy more news on repaints etc. Ive had a look at the southern internal refresh on 422.

There are massive works to be done on the units. Including complete re-wiring.

If they are doing a complete re-wire why didn't they do the internals at the same time. Surely it would be easier? Or is the re-wire actually to do with the cabs at each end and replacing electronic control modules?

In the meantime the Class 171s don't seem to like coming out to play after resting in the depot all day if last night is anything to go by! One train late, one cancelled, one short formed allegedly all due to faults.

I suspect this may have been covered earlier, in a very long thread, so apologies in advance but....

Why not just fit SDO to the new units and put them to work as-is on Marshlink, operating singly or able to rescue each other in an emergency?

That would deliver a welcome capacity boost on the marsh, and free some 2-car units to strengthen the Uckfields.

I know a micro-fleet isn't ideal, but that will be precisely the position with 442s (6 units retained) next summer and beyond.

What work has been carried out in Selhurst, just curious as you will notice that the aforementioned runs are timed for 224mph. :shock:

Because it's almost certainly a complex series of electronics that will be considered safety critical

No, and almost certainly not, unless you are a dab hand at wiring up a 170 every time you need to open the doors, or something similar...

not currently sure on the current state of these. I know 3 of the 4 units have had the dellner couplers fitted and internally are now "Southern-ised".

Not sure in which units are at selhurst and which are at stewarts lane, and i guess they will soon be off for repaint and other mods.

Did they say of which year though? :D

Although guess in part it is linked to the platform extensions, and I see Crowboroughs extension has been reprogrammed.

I can only assume they are not paying rent on them at the moment, because if they were surely it would make sense to have them out on the track, increasing capacity on the line and therefore attracting more passengers?

oh, didnt see that about crowborough.

It would be nice to have them now regardless of what livery they have etc, due to frequent short formations.

There was an article about these in the current Kent and Sussex Courier which I can't find on their website. Rather unfortunate that Southern have not supplied photos of the bad condition.of the Scotrail units to the passengers or media, nor updated anyone on on the progress of the refurbishment. Instead they have told a bunch of committee members who potentially are not even regular travellers! They in turn have shared it with a newspaper that most people don't read.

In the meantime the Southern tweet team took a lot of abuse on Thursday or Friday of this week for not knowing anything about the works!
