Station Usage increases for Leeds-Huddersfield line

Are the 2014-15 station usage figures due out this month? The 13-14 data was released last December. I'm always interested to see which areas have seen the most growth.

Whilst I wait for new data I had a look at the usage for my local line in the last 15 years. The data below is taken from a spreadsheet so probably down't line up..

I know there were issues with adding Metrocards etc over the years, but it is amazing that despite little or no investment, the same old pacers and awful stations, usage has tripled in a lot of cases and indeed, increased by a factor of 5 at Morley!

I know there were issues with adding Metrocards etc over the years, but it is amazing that despite little or no investment, the same old pacers and awful stations, usage has tripled in a lot of cases and indeed, increased by a factor of 5 at Morley!

The increase value is the amount above 100% which passenger numbers have grown, that means that Morley has about 6.5 times the number of passengers it had in 1998-99.

in simple terms the increase value is stating for every 100 passengers there were there are now x number of passengers more.

An easy example to follow through is Drewsbury which had (all figures are about) 540,000 in 1989 whilst now there are about three times that amount at 1,670,000 (three times 500,000 is 1,500,000) whilst there is only an increase of about 200% as there are about 1 million extra passengers which is about twice the amount above the number who used to use the station.

Hasn't the service doubled recently due to the addition of the Victoria-Leeds stopper?

I also suspect that the installation of ticket barriers at Huddersfield (did Leeds get barriers in this time frame too?) explains the increase at some stations, especially Deighton, as people probably weren't buying tickets before- notice it is the stations closer to Huddersfield and Leeds with the bigger growth.

The A62 is a very effective recruiting sergeant for rail.

The A62 is a very effective recruiting sergeant for rail.

It used to take me over an hour plus to do near Batley-Hudds (8 miles) on the A62 (going the opposite way to most people too), but then it once took me 2 hours so I always had to leave around 1h 30mins so I wasn't late for work. But then, when you consider the alternative is being crammed onto a bouncing, sweaty pacer or using the consistently late or cancelled TPE by changing at Dewsbury, that's hardly attractive either. With the new franchises, this fantastic growth could easily continue.

You need to factor in that the way if gathering the data changed significantly when the Lennon system was commissioned. For example the way certain ticket types generated journeys in the figures changed. Also with multi modal tickets and of course the growth of TOD has seen more singles bought
