Windows/Linux manage resources well.

Well, it doesn't agree with our router here, so I tend to use it for more media related things, and when I'm at Dan's. Which is quite alot. When I'm at home I just tend to use my desktop.

Indeed I find Linux to be better than Windows, uptime wise... To be honest, I blame Vista. Id like to say why, but its best not to.

That's one reason why Windows is better.

I don't remember now. I started a few years ago (probably about age 13?) on '98 at school. I just couldn't work it at all. But then, like anything else, you get used to it.

All my cousins have been brought up using Mac and they're great with it. Yet, they come to use Windows and they're very easily confused by it.

my dad used to have (decades ago obviously) one of those Amstrad computers with a green display and it had an incredibly basic drawing program on it and its memory was about 16kb

I don't know how you could get confused with 98 !, one of the easiest versions of Windows I have used. In my opinion.

I just prefer how Windows works compared to Mac.

We had an Amstrad, my brother wrote various games for it in Q-Basic, Snake for example. Was great!

one of the things I don't like about Mac is the fact it doesn't have anything like a start menu. There are all the tabs along the bottom but it's rather confusing all the same. And Windows 98 was very easy, we still have a computer with windows millenium on it which is similar and that's a piece of cake (on the rare chance I use it)

3.1 at hme, then 95/98 at primary school. My dad had a 2000 laptop for a while which got replaced with a ME. He then moved schools, so got an XP Pro. We then upgraded at home to XP Home, and now we have Vista Ultimate

Nope. Not once, I don't do it with Vista either, I just notice its more fresh after a restart.

Linux Suse/Windows XP
Linux Xandros/Windows XP
Linux Mandriva/Windows XP
Linux Ubuntu/Windows XP
Windows Vista Ultimate

Suse is the best linux IMO as a fully fledged OS. Ubutu is the best for a quick yet meaningful OS, Xandros is in the middle in my opinion.

Couldn't tell you how long mine has been on. It's never off though. Sometimes needs a restart, but that's about it.

Poor thing could do with a reformat, cause Explorer often randomly dies. But it ain't getting one.

Amstrads didnt really have an OS Tom unless you count CP/M which is kinda like DOS, they sorta did nothing without actually loading a program off a disk. I think "Stop Press" the Desktop Publishing program, Scrabble, 4-in-a-Row and the Word Processor was about as functional as they got!

I never used ME/2000 or NT.

Just used (in no particular order):

• 3.1
• 95
• 98
• Some Apple Mac
• XP Home
• XP Media Centre
• XP Pro
• Vista
• Linux Fedora Core (mucked up the hard drive)
• Linux Ubuntu (doesn't work too well, wont accept wireless drivers)

But settled back down again with XP.

Also for £4 at a carboot sale I bought an antique Acer laptop (more like a breeze block with the weight of a slab) which loaded some form of DOS but promptly broke.

Good god, that's positively ancient!

I've got a similar laptop here that I use for on-the-road web development, though mine's only got 2Mb RAM, a 40Mb HDD, and runs MS-DOS 6/Win 3.11. Works surprisingly well for building both WYSIWYG and dynamic websites on though...With basic graphics, too! hock:8)
(It used to be a right pain to use out and about though thanks to it's long-expired Ni-Cd battery...At least it was until VT kindly started installing power sockets in standard class! )

I know that it may be a bit old for most people to do web development on, but I'm fortunate in needing nothing more than DOS Editor to do all of my work on...Hard coded jobs FTW! 8)
